    Description

    Hello!

We are looking for single helpers, initially for one week at a time. We currently have availability from now onwards this year (2025). We would love to hear from you!

We are easy-going, retirees in our sixties. We are looking for non-smoking, fit, practical young single (only) people to help us with jobs around our property. This includes (but not limited to) gardening, weeding, painting, window cleaning, house cleaning/ organising, clearing undergrowth, mowing, walking track maintenance, help with small building jobs and maintenance, etc. Please tell us specifically how you can help us!

We live in Coomba Bay, NSW 2428 (find us on Google Maps) in a two storey home in a beautiful forested acreage with views over Wallis Lake and the Pacific Ocean. There are many birds and other wildlife. You will have your privacy in your own room downstairs with lounge area, bedroom and your own bathroom. We live within an easy 20 to 30 minute drive to some amazing beaches, national parks and lakes. We are looking for help around our property for 5 hours a day and would love to get to know you and share meals with you. We love providing cultural exchanges to our Workaway helpers by introducing them to lots of local people, sharing conversation and our knowledge, and touring the local national parks and local attractions with them!

We are in an isolated rural area with limited public transport, however we usually go to Smiths Lake once a week or into the twin towns of Forster/Tuncurry weekly. You are welcome to come along with us and you don't really need your own transport. But if you have your own transport you can be at some amazing beaches in 15 - 30 minutes (Blueys and Boomerang Beaches and Seal Rocks!). You are also welcome to use our kayaks to paddle on Smiths or Wallis Lake nearby.

If you're travelling to us by public transport, there are daily bus services from Broadmeadow train Station in Newcastle or Taree Station that both come to the Coomba Road turn off, and we can pick you up and drop you off there if needed.

There are local shops, cafes, etc at Charlotte Bay, Blueys and Smiths Lake about 20 minutes drive away. Our 33 acre, forested property backs on to Wallingat National Park and we have our own bushwalking track, and local bushwalking tracks leading to amazing views from our lookout or the lookout at Whoota so bring your bushwalking boots. Find more photos of us at:

As we live in the forest and really value our peace and quiet, we ask that you do too. Please, no loud music or disturbance, especially late at night. We love to listen to the sounds of nature and want helpers that value that too.

We are looking forward to meeting you and getting to know you.

    Regards Craig and Yvonne

Travellers can learn about all the bushfoods we grow here. Craig is a musician, plays the guitar and sings mainly songs from the second half of last century but is open to try all genres. We'll do a couple of very local tours in our car to see the local wildlife and beaches, show you our plethora of native bushfoods on our property, and have a cultural experience usually involving meeting local friendly people. There will also be opportunities to do 3 exercise classes per week, and occasionally try sailing and kayaking at the local Aquatic Club. We will supply all your food, and if you are able to cook meals, we would like you to cook and share some evening meals and we will cook meals for you the rest of the time that you stay with us.

  • What else ...

    What else ...

The area we live in has an abundant array of bushwalks, a variety of great lakes, spectacular surfing beaches, and sight-seeing opportunities. There will also be opportunities to do 3 free exercise classes per week, and occasionally try sailing and kayaking at the local Aquatic Club. This area is a convenient place to stay for a week if you're on your way between Sydney and Brisbane in your own transport or public transport. It's OK if you don't have your own transport, as there is a bus service to Forster, Monday to Friday, that picks up and drops off near our property once per day and another bus service stop 15 minutes' drive away to access Taree and Newcastle. You can also join us in our car when we usually drive to Forster and Smiths Lake at least once a week.
