Description
I live on 5 acres of land with a small but cosy house, no commercial TV but unlimited Prime TV, unlimited NBN WIFI, an endless collection of books and a never ending amount of laughter and conversation.
There are lots of chickens (like 400!), turkeys, ducks, geese and quail, as well as four big but friendly livestock guardian dogs. I also have two sheep, a calf and two pigs.
Chores here include animal care, especially daily feeding and watering, mucking out chicken pens and putting fresh bedding in, fixing of existing pens, possibly building of new pens and generally just giving a hand where required.
Generally I ask Workawayers to feed and water all the animals 5 days a week and then muck out some pens and add new bedding. There are two bigger days Saturday and Sunday where we work side by side to complete animal chores, and then three days where you’re potentially working on your own caring for animals for a couple of hours each day. I’m happy to show what needs to be done and work together whenever I can, but a level of self-motivation and ambition is required as I work full time and won't always be around to guide.
My place is just a hobby farm with no commercial aspects so if the above schedule doesn’t suit, I’m flexible to change things up.
This is a German and English speaking household so feel free to practice some language skills! I am studying French on Duolingo but my progress is not fabulous!
The preferred stay is generally one to two weeks, but this can be negotiated at the time.
I only have one guest bedroom so 2 people max. Preference is given to couples/friends traveling together and who ideally have a car. The bedroom has two single beds pushed together to make a large bed but if preferred, we can separate them back into 2 single beds once you arrive.Types of help and learning opportunities

Cultural exchange and learning opportunities
Be surrounded by a huge amount of lovely animals, see kangaroos in the neighbour's backyard, learn about poultry care and if you like, practice your English and your German!
I often work in different parts of Brisbane and surrounds so you are welcome to come out with me if you want to have a look around at times.Help
Someone who is confident around animals to help feed and water all the poultry would be ideal. Also someone not too squeamish when they have to muck out pens or clean up. Other than that basic maintenance tasks like fixing holes in fences but I am happy to teach these skills too.

There is only one guest bedroom and I can accommodate a couple or two singles in that room. If you are traveling solo you will have your own room and no other Workawayers will be staying at that time.
Food can be done whichever way you choose, usually with a shared dinner cooked by the host. What else ...
There is not much public transport around here so if you don't have a vehicle, you may get a bit stuck although of course I will take you with me when I work in the city if you like. If you have a vehicle, you are within an hour of lovely beaches, the bustling Gold Coast, 40 minutes to the centre of Brisbane and lots of parks and gardens close by.

Harry learnt everything he needed to be a real asset and was gentle and kind with all of my animals. I would recommend him to anyone who is looking for a completely trustworthy, honest and well rounded human being.
