🏄♀️ Help a Busy Family on the Gold Coast – Surf, Explore, and Lend a Hand!
We’re a busy, outdoorsy family on the southern Gold Coast, and we’re looking for a little extra help around our home. If you're the kind of person who loves a balance of light work and beach time, enjoys your independence, and doesn’t mind a bit of dirt under your fingernails, you might love it here.
🏡 What the Setup Looks Like:
We have two private rooms in a detached section of our home, sharing:
A bathroom
A kitchenette (with convection microwave and outdoor BBQ)
Plenty of storage, ceiling fans, and optional single mattresses if you need two beds
If you're a solo traveler or a pair, you'll have one room, and another Workawayer may be in the other. If you're a group, you may have both.
🚽 We’re on a biocycle system. That means only toilet paper goes in the toilet. No exceptions. If that sounds like a hassle—no hard feelings, this probably isn’t your spot.
👣 What We’re Looking For:
We ask for 12.5 hours of help per week – usually 2.5 hours a day, five days a week, but we’re flexible if you want to bunch it into fewer days.
You’ll be helping with a mix of:
Household chores
Gardening (think: pulling weeds, planting veggies, maybe naming worms)
Supporting homeschool activities like bike riding, swimming, trips to the beach or park, driving my son to activities.
If you’re someone who sees a broom and picks it up (instead of stepping over it), you’ll fit in perfectly.
🚲 What You Get:
A private room in a laid-back family setting
Use of electric bikes for easy access to:
Palm Beach surf break (15 min flat ride)
Burleigh, Currumbin Alley (10 min drive or easy cycle)
Local parks, trails, beaches, cafes, and shops
Space to do your own thing when you're off the clock
This is especially suited to:
Surfers – we’re flexible, and the bikes have board racks
Adventurers – you're in the heart of one of Australia’s most stunning regions
Gardeners & horse lovers – we’ve got both, and they love attention
People who like their independence, but aren’t afraid to chip in
🍳 Food & Living
We don’t provide meals because of our dietary needs, but:
You’ll have a kitchenette, BBQ, and full independence
A small supermarket is just a few minutes’ walk
Bigger shops (Woolworths etc.) and cafes are within 10 minutes by bike
We also don’t provide toilet paper – please bring your own
🗣️ A Word From the Host (That’s Me!)
I work 14–16 hours a day and homeschool my child. That means I’m not the one welcoming you – it will be another Workawayer or even my kid. I delegate wherever I can, even when I am at home.
We’ve had people come for a week and stay for six months. Others, like Omar (😉), didn’t love it here. And that’s okay – our place isn’t for everyone.
We’re upfront, respectful, easygoing, and very independent. We won’t be holding your hand, or cooking for you, or checking in every five minutes. But if you're mature, proactive, and don’t mind some dirt between your toes while getting things done – you’ll probably love it.
🛑 Not the Right Fit If:
You expect hotel-style hosting
You don’t like cleaning
You ignore house rules (like the toilet one – seriously)
You need someone around on a regular basis
🧡 Sound Like a Good Fit?
If you're independent, respectful, and excited about exploring the Gold Coast while helping out a local family, we’d love to hear from you. We prefer longer stays (a few weeks or more), but we’re open to chat.Types of help and learning opportunities

Travellers will have the opportunity to immerse themselves in the local lifestyle through their stay, by exploring the local parks and beaches using the bicycles we provide, they'll get to enjoy and learn about the natural beauty and recreational opportunities our area has to offer.
Our property is equipped with plenty of activities to keep travelers entertained during their downtime, including a pool, spa, basketball court, and pool table. The setting itself offers a unique and enriching experience, allowing travellers to relax and enjoy their stay.Projects involving children

Help
We are looking for assistance with a variety of tasks to help keep our home and garden running smoothly. A significant portion of the work will involve gardening, including planting, weeding, and general upkeep of our outdoor spaces. In addition, we may need help with various household tasks such as cleaning and organizing.
Sometimes we will need someone to take our son for excursions while we are working. We appreciate flexibility and a positive attitude, as the specific tasks can vary from day to day. We are always busy, your first day will always be cleaning your own room and the workaway bathroom.Languages spoken

Besides that, they don't provide any food, and you don't want to spend a lot of time in the “kitchen” either. The bathroom was a disaster too, I have seen abandoned buildings with bathrooms… read more
