Description
** Please read our full profile and check our availability before applying! We update our calendar as our needs change. We are generally seeking couples or traveling buddies who can stay 2-3 months **
Hi Workawayers, thank you all for your interest in our profile and being open to the possibility of joining us here in Minakami.
Over the past few years our project has been reforming a 55 year old lodge from which we now operate as a coffee roastery guest house with relaxing outdoor and indoor spaces for visitors of all ages to enjoy. We provide affordable guest house accommodation services catering to a range of people including school groups, families, company groups and those seeking to enjoy our coffee along with the amazing experiences available in the immediate area. We are located in a picturesque valley in the mountains of northern Gunma with numerous clean mountain rivers nearby, great hiking, onsens and outdoor adventure activities aplenty (skiing, boarding, rafting, swimming, biking, kayaking, canyoning etc.). The working style is flexible, determined a lot by the guest booking schedule, with plenty of time available to enjoy the area and the many great things it has to offer including outdoor activities, small farms, onsen, local foods, shrines/temples and much more. We like to have 2 Workawayers at a time who are ideally a couple or raveling companions who can share a room with each when required.
We are seeking Workawayers who have experience or the appropriate skill-set (and passion!) with one or more of the following: baking, coffee making/barista experience in a café, conversational Japanese ability, building/property maintenance.
We provide accommodation and pay Workawayers ¥1000/hr along with electric-assist bicycles and use of our 2nd car when available and certain conditions are met.Types of help and learning opportunities

There are many opportunities to meet with local people to learn about Japan and/or the language and to both learn a wide range of skills and to experience many cultural and outdoor activities. There are many short and longer term courses on offer for artistic pursuits (sumie, paper making, traditional dying etc.) with excellent hiking, skiing, snowboarding, white water rafting, paddle boarding, canyoning, fishing, cycling and other outdoor activities available. Of course there are opportunities to learn more and contribute to our knowledge of coffee roasting and brewing.

Help
We are seeking Workawayers who have experience or the appropriate skill-set (and passion!) with one or more of the following: baking, construction (renovations, treehouses, furniture etc.), garden/landscape maintenance, barista, conversational Japanese ability, arts/crafts teacher. All Workawayers will be required to clean bathrooms, guest rooms, the kitchen and common areas and to prepare rooms for guests.
Ideally Workawayers who are able to stay 2 months or more are preferred and we are re open to those both with and without Working Holiday visas. All Workaways are provided full accommodation with bedding, heating/cooling, utilities including WiFi along with food basics (conditions apply). We have bicycles, a car and other outdoor equipment that Workawayers are able to borrow if certain conditions are met. All Workawayers will be required to contribute to cleaning and other guest related duties, however there can be flexibility in this regard.
Baking/Cooking:
You do not need to be professional level or even have professional experience, just a passion for baking. We like to change what we serve our guests as often as possible with different pastries, tortes, pies, scones or tarts etc., from around the world. If you have some specialties that you love to bake and would like to introduce them to Japan, then our project could be a match for you!
Coffee Making / Barista:
Do you have experience using an espresso machine and making hand drip (pour over) coffee? You don't need to be a latte art legend, however you do need experience in a professional environment using an espresso machine. We provide all guests with a full café menu with their breakfast.
Carpentry/Building Maintenance experience:
Workawayers with building / carpentry or woodworking skills are attractive to us as we often have some interesting projects underway or ready to commence.Languages

Your friends will be bears, snakes, hornets, leeches and monkeys. Apart from this animation, I did love my stay in Tanigawa. Looking at the mountain behind the lodge, never been bored of it.
