Description
We are a family-run eco-farm and newly registered foundation located in beautiful Loei, Thailand. What started as a small garden-to-table family farm has grown into a broader mission: building a community-based space focused on sustainability, creativity, and compassion.
Our work combines organic farming (cacao, coffee, coconut, mushrooms, and more), tree planting, collaboration with elderly workers and children from low-income backgrounds, and creating meaningful experiences for both local and international volunteers.
At the heart of everything we do are our core values: caring, creativity, kindness, and connection. We warmly welcome guests as part of our extended family and ask that they embrace these values by showing respect and appreciation for this community, the people of Thailand, and all living beings.
We believe everyone has unique gifts and talents to share, and we look forward to seeing how yours can contribute to this space.
Our project is a working rural farm and social enterprise. We are not a retreat, hostel, or training center. Volunteers join an existing workflow and are expected to contribute meaningfully.

This experience is best suited for people who:

Long-Term Internship (4 Weeks +) , Cacao, Chocolate & Creative Work, We prioritize longer stays for those who wish to engage more deeply. Possible areas of contribution:
- Content planners, creators, and creative thinkers to design infographics, posters, visual aids, and short-form videos sharing our cacao journey (from farmers to chocolate bars).
- Chocolate makers or cacao enthusiasts interested in helping connect Thai cacao farmers with local and international craft chocolate makers through workshops and collaborations.
- Support in fundraising, NGO development, documentation, or volunteer coordination (for those with relevant experience).

Short-Term Stay (5–7 Days), Hands-On & Outdoor Projects, Short-term volunteers primarily support physical and outdoor work, depending on season:
- Cacao tree care and processing (weeding, watering systems, fermentation, drying).
- Biochar production using cacao pod husks and coconut shells (including cooking and heat experiments related to biochar).
- Adobe earth-brick making to expand workshop spaces.
- Compost and biochar making at the local temple alongside elderly villagers and children.
- Plant nursery preparation and soil work.
- Tree planting (fruit trees, native species, herbs, flowers).
- Practical and creative projects (simple furniture, signs, charity shop setups).
-Learning alongside local artisans (bamboo craft, broom making, natural dye, eco-print, weaving)

Important Note About Chocolate Making & Cacao Processing
Cacao fermentation and chocolate making are time-sensitive processes that depend on harvest cycles and production schedules. Not all stages are active at all times.
volunteers may observe and participate when activities align with their stay and project priorities. However, structured step-by-step teaching or full chocolate-making training is offered through our dedicated workshops.
For those who wish to receive in-depth instruction, we offer a cacao and chocolate workshop (900 THB per person), as listed on our website and materials. These workshops help support our foundation’s ongoing community work.
We ask volunteers to understand the difference between participating in a working production environment and attending a structured training course.

Meals & Food Culture
Food at our place is simple, mostly vegetarian, and seasonal. We grow fruits and vegetables in the garden, and volunteers are welcome to harvest what they help care for.
We provide basic staples such as rice and seasonal/local produce. Volunteers are responsible for their own specialty foods, snacks, and personal preferences.
We often cook and eat together, especially dinner, as part of community life — but shared meals are informal and depend on everyone’s availability and energy. Volunteers are encouraged to participate in cooking, cleaning, and sharing food costs or ingredients when appropriate.
We value a culture of contribution rather than service. Living here means sharing responsibilities, supporting local markets, and being part of the rhythm of the household.

Loei is located in Northeast Thailand. Below are approximate distances and travel options from major cities:

Flights operate daily from Don Mueang Airport (DMK) to Loei Airport.
Currently 2 flights per day (around 9:55 AM and 4:10 PM) operated by AirAsia.

Our operating model
We operate as a hybrid model: a family-run social enterprise that funds… read more and works alongside the Foundation, which focuses on children, elders, local farmers, and community-based environmental education. Volunteers contribute to real, ongoing work that supports both livelihood and community outcomes. This is not a classroom, retreat, or training center, but a living project embedded in a rural community.
Seasonality and workload realities
Task allocation varies by season, event schedule, and project priority. Not all volunteers work on all tasks, and hosts cannot work side-by-side on every activity—particularly when hosting multiple projects and 10+ volunteers per month. Certain activities (such as cacao fermentation, biochar production, or construction) are not active at all times due to harvest cycles, weather conditions, and community events. Volunteers are expected to adapt to these realities, as they are part of working in a real agricultural and community setting.
Teaching and learning approach
We train long-term volunteers to become project leaders. Once they gain experience, they are encouraged to guide and support newer volunteers. This creates a shared learning environment that benefits existing volunteers, newcomers, hosts, and the wider community.
Learning with us happens primarily through learning-by-doing, observation, and repetition. We cannot always offer step-by-step, one-on-one instruction. Volunteers are not paid clients receiving private training; rather, they contribute to shared work and gain knowledge through collaboration, responsibility, and peer learning. Many volunteers appreciate this autonomy and the trust placed in them.
Communication structure
To avoid confusion and mixed messages, we use a one-person communication structure for instructions and coordination. This system is intentional and designed to ensure clarity. One of the hosts mentioned as “rarely speaking” was never asked to teach cacao fermentation; therefore, there was no refusal. This host focuses on action-based work rather than verbal instruction by design.
Record-keeping and responsibility
Some tasks, such as chocolate making, involve high-value ingredients and shared knowledge contributed by collaborators from different regions and countries. For reference, formal cacao fermentation and chocolate-making courses typically cost several thousand baht.
For this reason, detailed record-keeping—both physical and digital—is required of all volunteers involved. This system exists to support transparency, shared learning, and collective growth, not as an administrative burden.
Context of the volunteer’s stay
There were challenges prior to arrival, including multiple date changes and short notice, as well as arrival earlier than expected. The volunteer arrived on a day when we were hosting a community and children’s event, including free lunch and a shared birthday dinner. This event was part of our foundation’s ongoing work with local children and community partners and was fully supported by our team and volunteers.
Chocolate-making projects are typically allocated to experienced chocolate makers. In this case, the volunteer had the opportunity to learn alongside a volunteer who had already been trained by us earlier. This provided full access to our bakery facilities and equipment, as well as several kilograms of craft-grade cacao beans and high-cost local ingredients (such as macadamia nuts), all supplied for learning and experimentation.
The volunteer also participated in a cacao and coconut farm visit, which included learning exchanges on coconut products and permaculture practices with partner farmers.

A small fee of 150 THB paid by volunteers went directly to the farmer, who later donated the full amount to children at a local orphanage for a New Year celebration. Transportation, coordination, and meals related to this activity were provided by us at no cost.

During the same period, volunteers were exposed/witnessed to everyday village life and cultural events, including a Buddhist retreat period, neighborhood ceremonies, exchanges with elders (vegetable selling and recycling collection), and traditional craft activities such as broom making with local grandmothers. We also regularly shared food and chocolate with neighbors in exchange for materials and hosted informal evening gatherings with shared meals and hot cacao. Chocolate tasting and experimentation happened almost daily among multiple volunteers, not as an individual activity.

Despite challenges, we continued to support the volunteer’s learning. We arranged a video call with a trusted collaborator and transferred 5 kg of cacao beans free of charge to support continued learning in Northern Thailand.
Reflection

We recognize that expectations around teaching style, authority, and host availability can differ. While we continuously refine our communication and volunteer profile, we also maintain clear boundaries around how this place is run in order to protect the work, the community, and the people involved. We encourage future volunteers to read our profile carefully and communicate openly before arrival to ensure alignment.
