Hi we are Lerrin and Siam and we are a Thai / German couple with 2 children and we have a little bar and resort in Tonsai. We live in a beautiful bay neighbouring Railay and 5 mins from Ao nang by long tail boat. We have had the business 11 years and for 10 years we were on the beach front. Our bar was very well known and unique, are atmosphere has a very good reputation and the art work mixed with natural drift wood that made up our bar set us apart from the rest. Now we are farther inland due to the redevelopment happening along the beach. We have been in the new place about a year and sadly we could not take the drift wood and some of the fantastic artwork so we are set to create the uniqueness again but making it even more colourful and special!
We have 90 bungalows built on the incline of the hillside. Each bungalow has been made out of wood and bamboo using the materials Mother Nature gave us. They are minimally furnished and our guest come to enjoy nature and live the old back packer way but as with anything the sun and time has weathered them so they look tired very quickly. Our Bar is the hub of the resort where people gather and relax, listening to live music or watching our fire shows. People just come to take in the vibe which is a Rasta and hippie alternative to the very touristy areas close by.
Also on site we have a small restaurant and local food stands as well as a small shop and tour desk, all surrounding the heart of us, the bar area.
All the housing, bar area and furniture has been hand crafted by my husband who is very creative and artistic and we have put a lot of love and time to create an environment people feel at home in. All the art work is one of a kind and really makes our place stand out from the rest as you will see.
Helping with Tourists
Our bar and bungalows are situated perfectly amongst the lush rain forest and the base of the famous Tonsai cliff, just a five minute walk from the peaceful beach and towering limestone cliffs. All around is peace and tranquillity, life for us here is very simple and laid back and this is reflected in our bar and bungalows.
We need your help asap!! We are looking for someone who can help at our resort on reception. Minimum a 3 weeks to 1 month would be great. We are looking for just 1 volunteer.
Experience would be nice but willingness to learn is fine. English speaking is a must and basic writing and reading is important. The person who applies must be a people person, outgoing and able to live in a simple environment. Checking in customers, showing them the rooms, handling monies. There are various shifts to work.
Tonsai runs on generated power, so electricity is at certain times as is wifi.! If you are someone who like luxury then this position may not be for you.
The reception works requires you to check in the guest, show them to the room. Take monies, write out bookings book and board, deal with any issues with the guests, which you can ask for my assistance with or Chris, who works full time at reception. Giving information on our resort and surrounding areas. Checking Guest outs. Calculating monies at the end of the shits. cleaning reception area.

You will be staying in one of our resort volunteer rooms you will have use of all amenities and we have everything on site. It is five minutes’ walk to the beach and a few minutes to other bars and restaurants. There is plenty to do on your time off especially if you’re an avid rock climber; we have some of the best rock climbing here in Tonsai and Railay. Railay beach is a short walk away and Ao nang is easily reached by long tail. You also have the other islands on your door step to visit during time off.
We will provide you with 2 x meals. free water, Soft drinks x2 day are free and alcoholic drinks will be charged at staff rate.
The bungalows are basic and in the jungle, there is only cold water showers and fans. We are in the jungle, so expect to see bugs and other wildlife.
We are a small resort and we live a life style here that some are not use to. Our bungalows are basic and equipped with a bed, mosquito net and fan. The toilets are western sit down style but the water is flushed using the Thai water and pan method. We also use cold showers which are refreshing but please bear in mind its 30+c here during the day so the water is not cold like European standards.
Tonsai is classed as main land but we are cut off from everyone else the same as Railay because we are around a bay. It is easy to reach Ao nang and Krabi if you wish to go away on days off. All the resorts and houses on Tonsai generate their own power. Our power is on at peak times 8am – 12pm and 6pm to 6am other times it is off. Wi-Fi is available at these times.
Please understand that this is low season so that means rain! The rain can come for 10 minutes, an hour or be all day. So the area will be understandably more quite than high season and some days you may find yourself unable to go on the boats to Ao nang. Please bring a rain mac (lightweight) it will still be hot! A torch just in case and mozzie spray is always handy.
If you enjoy nature and have a sense of adventure then this placement will be for you! We will do everything to ensure you have a comfortable stay but this is for someone who can manage without life’s luxuries and relax in the beautiful place we live.
