Description
My name is Rahula. I am the chief monk at a Buddhist Temple , SE of Kandy. I also teach English at the local public school. We would like to welcome volunteers who enjoy teaching English to children. KOREAN, JAPANESE, RUSSIAN and FRENCH languages can also be taught. Our aim is to bring education to the impoverished rural areas of Sri Lanka and give children in our village a chance to succeed in the modern world.

We encourage volunteers to stay for AT LEAST ONE MONTH and staying for 3 months or more if you enjoy being here would be even better.
Primary work is at the school, teaching languages to children, but other types of help can also be done around the temple. No certification is required, but having experience with children and teaching English really helps.

Accommodation
The private rooms are located in the premises of the temple. Which means women cannot stay there and will be staying with a host family in the village instead. That is also a great opportunity for cultural exchange and to learn some Sinhala.
There is always plenty of food and accommodation will be free of charge. The temples and the nature here provide a perfect place to meditate and learn about Buddhism if you wish.
What else ...
Besides the beautiful landscapes all around us, there are many other tourist attractions to explore. City of Kandy is about 30km away and always has lots of tourists. Nuwara Eliya (50km) and Adam's Peak are also quite close. This part of Sri Lanka is known for mountains and its moderate climate. Buses are available to both locations.
