We have a small guest ranch in the Robson Valley. We have 4 guest cabins, a small store and coffee shop, outdoor arena, roundpen and many horse pens with shelters. We have a total of 33 horses at the moment, a fun collection of horses, everything from a miniature to a draft, some experienced mountain horses, some rescues. Besides horses we have dogs and cats, so it's busy but fun!
We have guest staying in our cabins and we offer trail rides and give horsemanship and riding lessons, and offer courses and horse holidays, we also take on training horses although we're mostly busy training our own horses. We also offer "ranch nights", a cowboy/ranch experience for tourist, where we serve dinner and entertain guest with our ranch games, horse shows, line dancing etc.
Our ranch is a family business, but we are a young team running the day to day operations.
You can truly experience Canadian Ranch life.
We train our horses with the Irwin Insights method and our head trainer is a master level 4 certified Irwin Insights trainer, which means if you're interested there's a chance to learn all about this method of working with horses as well while staying on our ranch. We regularly start young horses or retrain " problem horses" and are always happy to explain and teach all about that.
This host offers accommodation and payment.
Working on a ranch like ours means helping wherever you can and being flexible.
We expect everyone to help with the daily chores on the ranch (cleaning out the pens etc.) and we would like it if everyone could help with the ranch nights, which is usually quite fun to do as well.
Besides that, we can always use an extra hand with the housekeeping. Our 4 cabins are usually fully booked the entire summer, so the cabins need daily cleaning.
We really enjoy working as a team and helping each other out but there will be times where you are expected to work independently.
Although there’s always the opportunity to learn if you want to as we love sharing our knowledge of horse care, horsemanship and riding etc. and of course there’s the option to go on trail rides, our Workaway position isn’t a “horse position”. We do need help sometimes around the horses, but you’ll not be helping with the training etc.
We have set up a camp for our workawayers, working students and staff. We have 3 different travel trailers. You will have a private bedroom (either a small camper for yourself or part of a bigger camper) a shared small bathroom, living area/kitchen and outhouse. It's not a luxurious accommodation but comfortable.
You’ll be expected to make your own breakfast in the kitchen in one of the campers (we provide the groceries), lunch will be made for you and dinner we all have together.
We do have a laundry machine and dryer available which you can use one day a week.
You're living in a camp on a ranch in a rural area of Canada, so expect just that! (our internet isn't perfect, not a shower every day etc.)
We are located in Valemount, a small but active town. Our ranch is located only a few minutes’ drive from town. The town is small but has everything you need (a grocery store, pharmacy, some restaurants, coffee shop, brewery etc.) Valemount is located 20 minutes from Mount Robson (the highest mountain of the Canadian Rockies) and an hour from Jasper National Park.
There are many hiking and horse trails around us. And a lots of other tourist attractions and acitivities such as white-water rafting, ATVing etc.
We have bikes available which you are always free to use to go into town etc. and we sometimes have a car available if you’d like to go sightseeing or want to go on any of the many activities Valemount and area have to offer.
