Description
Looking for someone(s) to join us at our Homestead Heaven just 15 minutes drive from Calgary at the Foothills of the Canadian Rockies, surrounded by beauty and peace, ducks, chickens, Guinea Fowl, goats, sheep, piggies and nature. Looking for people that would like to live in a beautiful and rustic hunter's cabin on our land next to the house, or in the house during the Winter. I'd love a bit of help with the chores during our gorgeous Summer and a bit of language exchange for the kids and household help in the Winter.
FROM MID APRIL, WE ARE ALSO LOOKING FOR A CARPENTER OR FRAMER TO HELP US BUILD A NEW SPACE! If you are really great at DIY or construction, we would love to hear from you.
Preference is usually given to female Workaways as our two little girls love female company and the longer you are able to stay, the better :) We can usually accommodate stays as short as two weeks, but do prefer longer.
Our Workaways described a typical Summer day as follows:
⁃ Food sorting for the animals
⁃ Give sheep, chickens, pigs and goats fresh water and change the duck’s water if dirty
⁃ Feed the sheep pigs, goats, ducks and chickens
⁃ Food sorting
⁃ Childcare/creative play/language expansion through the day or whenever needed (mum or dad will always be home and around to assist)
⁃ Domestic chores like cleaning and laundry
⁃ Essential household chores that are part of living is expected as part of daily life. Our farm is not a hotel or restaurant and cleaning the kitchen around shared meals, cleaning and tidying shared spaces, helping to cook and laundry are expected as part of daily life. Cleanliness and cooperation are fundamental.
In Winter we still need to brave the cold to feed the animals and check that they are happy and well!
We eat everything and usually cannot cater for allergies or special diets, but will always put health and wellness at the top of our ingredients list. I might cook or ask that you prepare these yourself and dinner will vary. If I am not cooking, I will make sure you have food!
Farm work will always entail organisation, weeding, gardening, moving stuff around and tidying. None of the work is very tricky but we would ask that you do your best and a helpful and cheerful attitude is always, always welcome.
We have fantastic outdoor meditation spaces and whilst Bragg Creek is nearby but I can only do a limited amount of fetching and carrying.

It's really beautiful here with the Rockies on your doorstep and Kananaskis just down the road. Calgary is 15 minutes away by car.

Help
Looking for someone to help with the kids, housework and farm chores. We would also be interested in someone that would like to stay for a few months that is interested in creative play with the children and teaching them a foreign language. Work around the farm is varied and sometimes weather dependant. There is almost always housework to be done and common sense and a willing attitude go a long way!
FROM MID APRIL, WE ARE ALSO LOOKING FOR A CARPENTER OR FRAMER TO HELP US BUILD A NEW SPACE!

Interested but anxious that the Workaday is still able to communicate with us!
Accommodation
Just next to the house in your own private quarters we have a beautiful old and rustic hunters cabin with a sleeping dais above the living area. There is a fireplace in the cabin and limited electricity.
In the Winter we have two rooms available for volunteers. Depending upon the number of people staying with us it may be necessary to share one of the rooms, though never with the opposite gender!
We provide food for 3 meals a day, and hungry people are welcome here :) We usually eat jointly prepared meals together and everyone is expected to help with cooking and cleaning up afterwards.
What else ...
Nature is on your doorstep but town is not a walkable distance without a car.
