    Description

    Hello everyone,

My name is Ina. I used to be an art teacher at the German School in Las Palmas, and about four years ago we moved with a music band onto the land around an old gofio mill in a valley on the outskirts of Las Palmas.

Today we are a community of around 15 to 20 people of different ages and backgrounds, including people from the Canary Islands, mainland Spain, Chile, Cuba, Colombia, Poland, Germany and other places. The four main pillars of our community are permaculture, music, art and healing. We also share the land with quite a few cats, who you will probably get to know during your stay.

We welcome people who are curious about alternative community life, enjoy being close to nature, and want to contribute with practical help, creativity and a positive attitude.

    Cultural exchange and learning opportunities

We talk Spanish. English and German, loving music and art. You can hike through the valley in 30 min. to the old city of Las Palmas, as well as to the botanical Garden.

We enjoy making music, art and ceramics. There is a ceramic workshop and a diverse collection of tools for wood and metal work.

We are looking for people who are genuinely interested in exploring an alternative way of living in a community setting, with a positive attitude and a willingness to contribute. It is important to us that volunteers come not only for the place, but also for the experience of sharing, learning and taking part in community life.

    Help

Our day usually begins in the communal kitchen, where people prepare their own breakfast before we gather at 9:00 ( 8 in summer) to talk about the day’s projects and divide the tasks. Working hours are from 9:00 to 13:00. ( 8.00 -12.00 in summer )Most of the help is garden-based and includes recovering the soil, planting, harvesting, watering, composting and taking care of the plants. There are also tasks such as cleaning communal areas, general tasks, small construction tasks and sometimes tasks in the wood workshop.

At around 13:30, when you hear the sound of the conch shell, it is time for everyone to come together and enjoy a vegetarian or vegan lunch. Lunch is prepared for the community and eaten together. The rest of the meals are self-service, but food is included.

Experience in gardening, permaculture, construction, maintenance, woodwork or practical hands-on tasks is very welcome. At the same time, you do not need to be an expert. If you have a strong help ethic, are reliable, enthusiastic and open to learning, you can also be a good fit here. Very welcome artistic people with some experience in mosaics, or who love to create fairy tale meeting places or stair cases. We love Gaudi. But don’t copy 😍.

We are also happy to hear from people who would like to share something with the community, such as yoga, art, music, ceramics, healing practices or other workshops. You are welcome to bring your skills, ideas and creativity, as long as you are also willing to take part in the everyday practical work that keeps the place alive.

We have different rooms and caves on the land, as well as a big communal cave that feels a little like a small cotton tent Indian village. There is a kitchen for volunteers, bathrooms with hot water showers, a meditation cave and a music cave with some instruments that are free to use.

Food is included during your stay. Volunteers have full access to the communal kitchen and can prepare their own breakfast, dinner and snacks. At around 13:30, we come together for one prepared vegetarian or vegan lunch .

The beautiful old town centre of Las Palmas is about 10 minutes away by bus or around 30 minutes on foot. The three-kilometre-long city beach can be reached by two buses in about half an hour and is a great place for swimming or surfing. Gran Canaria is a volcanic island with many different microclimates, landscapes and hiking routes to explore during your free time.

Right next to the Las Palmas city bus stop, just beside the old town.
