  • Description

I am an American woman and a natural foods chef and author of two natural food cookbooks.
I moved to my half acre seaside property on Bastimentos Island 10 years ago. Located on the exclusive windward side of the island (where there is always a gentle breeze). The only sounds are the sea and bird life. Although it appears remote, it is only a 5 minute walk to the center of the village and a 10 minute scenic boat ride to Isla Bocas del Toro where all the action is. There are no cars or industry on Bastimentos Island and so the air is pristine. It is heaven on earth!

Bastimentos is different from the rest of Panama as it was populated 3 generations ago by Caribbean islanders. Their native language is Guadi Guadi, a creole form of English and of course also Spanish. They are friendly and have a wonderful sense of humor. Having lived on 3 other continents, I find that the life here is quite unique. Learning how to blend in and to accept different cultures is a rewarding life experience. It breaks down borders. The benefits are life changing.

    What else ...

    Bastimentos is a vibrant village.
There are no cars, no pollution. The 3 food/supplies markets are a short walk away. The locals are English speakers and very friendly with a great sense of humor. We are only a 10 minute boat taxi ride to the main island, Bocas del Toro, where all the action is.
Besides swimming or swinging on a hammock by the sea, boat tours are offered to other islands; the cacao farm and their chocolate goodies is close by; take a scenic walk through the jungle where you may encounter a sloth or 2 hanging from a tree! There are both full menu and vegan restaurants close by. If ripened, pick fruit from my two ancient mango trees, banana and papaya trees. The Bastimentos diving school offers both private or group diving lessons and also rents diving equipment. Every boat driver offers tours to outlying islands.
And I offer private cooking classes! Eat and be happy!
