    Description

    Ciao und Hallo everybody!

Our project is to live serenely, aware and respectful as much as possible of ourselves, of others and of these beautiful places that host us… EASY, right!? ;-)

We are focusing our practical efforts on soil & landscape regeneration, water, energy and food autonomy and to exchange as much as possible with the community around us. The road is still long, but luckily we are already on the way. If you want to participate in the process of this great little project, you are very welcome!

Our small community is currently made up of:
    - Juli (German), works a bit online and whenever she can she pops out to take care of the land, to collect & transform herbs, fruits and flowers. Another passion of hers is fermentation experiments.
    - Rob (Italian), teaches natural sciences, but lately he has little desire to go to school to teach and much more to learn beautiful things in the open air. He loves trekking & theater.
    - Muffetta (stateless), is an affectionate kitten, happily employed in catching mice, living outside and became a mom short time ago.

We live in a small house with surrounding land in the hills of Roccella Jonica, 300 meters above the ionian sea, that we happily see from our place.
The place is about 3.5 km from the village of Roccella Jonica, accessible by almost any means of transport (we have already received several visits from friends with campers and vans), even if the road is narrow and steep in some places... a downhill sprint and an uphill hike!

    Cultural exchange and learning opportunities

Whoever decides to come here will immediately be welcomed into the community of foreign and local people that we have been lucky to get to know since we are living here.

And since Roberto's calabrian family doesn't live very far away, it's likely that you'll experience a real calabrian lunch - or at least enjoy some local wine and cheese. In short, the chance to get in close contact with the reality of Calabria, seen from different angles and perspectives: that of people who have decided to come and live here or who have never left this land.

    Help

As we live in the countryside, we never get bored, don't worry! ;-)

It would be nice if you already have some experience with plant care or do-it-yourself and building projects.
In general, we will try to find activities according to your passions and talents – in line with the current needs and priorities of the place.

This spring we would like to prune a few citrus trees and do some grafting. If you're an expert in these areas, be sure to let us know, you'll get preferential treatment. ;-)
We will also be preparing the wood for next winter. This means cutting up the wood with garden shears, possibly also felling a few dry trees and transporting the wood with the wheelbarrow.

In addition, we are planning various projects and you are welcome to contact us for a specific one, for example:

    - woodworks
    - complete phytodepuration and pond
    - build a composting toilet
    - painting the walls outside (whitewash, make a mural...)
    - set up the irrigation system for the trees and vegetable garden

We would be happy if you are a bit flexible with the working days/times, adapting to our job hours and the weather conditions – of course always considering your needs.

    Accommodation

Your shelter will be "Tonnarello," our beloved old camper, comfortable and spacious, equipped with kitchen, stove, closet, blankets, mini fridge and little toilet (for the pee only). The house bathroom with toilet, bidet and hot shower is at your disposal. Tonnarello is located near the house, close to a large shed with outdoor kitchen and washing machine. There is also a barbecue outside.
If you prefer to stay a little further away from the house you can easily find a place to camp with your/our tent.

    FOOD
We usually offer one meal (lunch or dinner) per workday, so that we can finish (or start) our activities by enjoying food together. And for sure there will be also days when we eat together several times, with friends etc.
So let's go with the flow! ;-)

Every week there is a market in the village where we can go together to buy fresh local food for the week.
We are also happy to share our homemade olive oil with you - and please feel free to pick everything you find on on the land for your daily needs (fruits, herbs etc.).

  • What else ...

    What else ...

PLEASE DO ONLY USE BIODEGRADABLE COSMETICS ETC., if possible.
In any case we can give you soap for the body, the dishes and the washing machine.

LIVING TOGETHER: We love being in good company, eating together and doing other activities with friends - and sometimes we just like being together as a couple. THAT'S WHY WE ARE LOOKING FOR PEOPLE WHO FEEL THE SAME WAY, that means: who like to be independent from time to time.

    FREE TIME:
Anyway we would be happy to take you along to our free time activities if you like.
We do Tai Chi twice a week.
Whenever it's warm and possible, we go to the sea, at least for a quick dip in the water and a picnic, and we often meet up with friends for different kinds of activities: time together, work in the countryside, markets, events, excursions, dinners, sports and meditative practices, theater, etc.

Roccella is a beautiful little town with various cultural events, such as theater performances, philosophy meetings, jazz festivals, etc.

    TRANSPORT:
Since we live on a hill and only have one car, we have to be somewhat organized with getting around. Whenever possible, we will gladly take you by car.
However, if you have your own means of transportation or are a good walker (approx. 45 minutes each way), this is an advantage.
Otherwise, we will be happy to lend you our e-bike or muscle bikes, if you want to go to Roccella or the surrounding area.
There is also a train and bus station in Roccella, where public transport is available, especially during the day.
