    Description

We live in a beautiful 250 year old farmhouse in the countryside in county Meath, Ireland that has been in my husband's family for generations. We moved into it in 1998 just before our first daughter was born and have lovingly renovated and modernised it over the years. We created our garden from scratch where there were previously only outhouses and a farm yard. Old houses are a constant 'labour of love' needing a lot of time and attention ❤️ My husband grew up here and I am originally from England. We have 4 daughters, 2 dogs, some hens and 2 pygmy goats 😊

    Cultural exchange and learning opportunities

My husband and I and two of our daughters will be at home most of the time (aged 19 & 22) and we will be happy to include the workawayer in family and social activities and show them around the local area, things to do, etc.
We can provide a bike to explore the area if desired and there are local transport links to Dublin, Galway, etc.
We can share our knowledge of DIY/maintenance, gardening (given the project at hand), and cooking (we all love food & eating & cooking together), and anything else the workawayer is interested in, and we hope to learn from the workawayer too!

    Help

We are in the process of revamping our garden and would like help with this.
When we first created it, it was designed for young children with lots of room to play and for parents who were very time poor - so very few flower beds!
Over the last year I have had a bit more time and have been adding flower beds and doing some redesign work.
We need help to continue with this project. Tasks will include pruning and reshaping some shrubs; strimming, weeding and tidying some beds and borders; mulching; planting; painting - a variety of jobs to help us continue to improve our outdoor space.
We both work full-time but mainly from home (my husband is always at home). We will be doing some of the work ourselves at weekends and otherwise will supervise/oversee/guide the work.
Ideally we'd like somebody with relevant gardening knowledge and experience.

    Accommodation

We have converted a cowshed that now houses a large living space, office, bathroom w. shower and utility room. We would provide a bedroom and use of the bath/shower room to the workawayer in this building. It's attached to our house but separate to where the family sleep so quite private.
The workawayer can eat all meals with us. Breakfast and lunch are usually more 'help yourself' style Monday-Friday as everyone is working, but we usually eat together in the evening, often taking turns to cook.
We can provide space in a separate fridge/freezer if desired and will be happy for the workawayer to help themselves to snacks, fruit, drinks etc.

  • What else ...

    What else ...

We're a sociable family who have fun, have a good sense of humour, love music (usually something playing somewhere or somebody singing or playing an instrument - we have a piano and several guitars), enjoy food & cooking/eating, like the outdoors & keeping fit, and love animals.
Our house is big so there's usually room for everyone to get peace & quiet when they need it too.
Look forward to welcoming whoever becomes our workawayer to our home and getting to know each other.
Happy to help the workawayer find things to do on days off, based on their interests.
