Hello, we’ve been hosts since May 2016.
We are laid back but have 1 huge rule :
no smoking 🚭no smokers
Welcome to sunny, southern California. We've taken about 2 years off from hosting people but are now back, ready and excited to accept world travelers. We are rural. There is a bus line by the house, but it is easier if you rent a car. You could also buy a cheap one and sell it before you leave.
We are 1 - 1 1/2 hours from San Diego, Los Angeles, Orange County and Big Bear Mountain. We can surf in the winter and make it to the mountain to ski in the afternoon - honestly we don't do either, both are too cold for us.
We need plumbers, electricians, roofers, builders.
We need electrical outlets outside.
We need a water heater installed.
We need a new roof over part of the cottage (the part you stay in is solid and dry.
We need caulking done.
We need a shower installed.
We need a pond dug.
We need trees chopped.
We need a green house built.
We need an outdoor kitchen built.
You need to be a self-starter who can work independently. You need to be willing and able to finish a project completely before moving on to another one.
It gets HOT in the summer - work starts at the crack of dawn. (5:30-6:00 am) Finished by 10:00 am
1 small cottage with a day bed, drawers underneath for your clothing.
A kitchen sink, small refrigerator
New in August 2018 - the cottage has a working shower with hot water!
And you also have access to the house kitchen - which has just about everything you could need.
What we need from you:
Tell us what skills you have and projects you’ve worked on.
If you are a couple, both must work.
Help with all shared meals.
Be happy, upbeat, outgoing, energetic, and have friendly attitudes.
We have space for you, food, and the locale - what can you do for us in return?
Help with Eco project
Practice homesteading skills, making friends with others from around the world.
We have wifi in both the house and the cottage
We are rural and off the beaten path - 4 miles to downtown Perris; 6 miles to Lake Elsinore - but not very close to a BIG city. Riverside is somewhat close by and on the bus line - you must take the time to visit the Mission Inn in Riverside while you're here. There is a bus that runs and is just 4 properties away (RTA is the bus line, our street is on the #️️22 bus. ) and a train just began operation on June 6, 2016 ( - we are on the 91/Perris Valley line) which can take you to and from Los Angeles & Orange County & from Orange County to San Diego. There is also Uber or your feet.
Having your own car is recommended, but not essential if you don't mind taking the bus.
Things to do in the area:
*️️️️️️️️The Perris airport has sky diving and has indoor skydiving - air pushes you up.
*️️️️️️️️ Next door in Lake Elsinore is zip lining
*️️️️️️️️ Lake Elsinore has a lake that you can swim in - Take the 22 bus to the 8 bus
*️️️️️️️️ Very close by (bicycle distance) is a motorcycle speedway
*️️️️️️️️In Perris is the Lake Perris State Recreation Area - you would need a car to get there
*️️️️️️️️Perris Auto Speedway is also available
*️️️️️️️️Depending on the time of year, there is also the Perris Fair
*️️️️️️️️Nearby Wildomar has the Santa Rosa Plateau with miles of trails to hike.
*️️️️️️️️ Nearby Temecula hosts a wine and hot air balloon festival each year. There are also wineries and a great Farmer's Market in Old Town on Saturdays.
*️️️️️️️️Idywild is a quaint town less than an hour away.
*️️️️️️️️ Update: I've found someone who gives winery tours by horseback - you go to 2-3 wineries for tastings.
Further away by about 1 1/2 hours is Los Angeles to the North, San Diego to the South, Orange County to the West and Julian to the East in the mountains.
