It was my first work away and I stayed for a month and a half. I have so much to say that I don't know where to start.
I arrived in this incredible family. I was a bit apprehensive because I'm not at all bilingual in English, but that wasn't a problem. (Fun fact: I've never been able to pronounce Hjörtur's name correctly).
We laughed, chatted
… read more about life, spent time with their entourage, all as if we'd known each other for a long time. Grandma even taught me how to knit. :)
I spent time with all the children. The two big boys are great big brothers and it's always nice to spend time with them. Sóldís and Hafþór are young children who are full of happiness, and I loved playing with them. I was extremely lucky to be present for the arrival of their latest daughter, Glódís.
I did a bit of cleaning in their rentals and the laundry.
In my spare time, I was able to borrow their car, which was really nice! I was able to go to the gym, the museum, take a walk, meet another au pair and even discover Akureyri's best coffee spots.
I recommend this family 1000%.
Heiðdis, you're a 10/10 ;)

My second workaway was great experience to learn a different way of life and try to live in more remote area near the beautiful city of Akureyri. Hosts were really nice and I had a chance to meet many people while staying in the house and I think I learned many things about the culture and Iceland itself.
The views and surrounding were truly
… read more beautiful and I had a chance to explore some more of Iceland on my own and together with a family as well as we planned some trips together.
I just have to note, the life out of the urban area is not for everyone. I come from bigger city and after some time I started to miss few things which the town have to offer, as here you have to use car if you need something from the town. For some people it can be really challenging, the difference, but for others it can be perfect break and peaceful relax.
I am grateful for my stay here and wish the family all the best. You can only contact Workawayers who have an active membership.

I stayed with Hjörtur and Heiðdis for 2 1/2 months during the summer, and had a better experience that I could had ever asked for.
Right from the start they made me feel welcome and comfortable in their home. I always felt like part of the family. I never once felt like I was 'working'. As I was having so much fun looking after the kids and

They made it very easy for me to fit in with the family and enjoy the beautiful country.
All of the kids are super great and fun to be around. The oldest two boys speak english and it is very easy to get on well with them. The younger two kids are also super sweet and very nice to play with and look after.
And of course, Hjörtur and Heiðdis, were both super nice. They were both very easy to be around and talk to. They only ever wanted the best for me, and to make sure I was happy in their home.
My days were very easy. I was just spending time with the kids, doing the laundry, and sometimes cooking dinner and doing some cleaning. They live in a beautiful location, and you can easily go for walks and enjoy the view.
I learnt so much about looking after kids and also about myself. This was an adventure of a lifetime. Anyone who meets them are very lucky!
I am so honoured that I got to meet this amazing family, learn about the Icelandic culture and to see the beautiful, unreal nature. You can only contact Workawayers who have an active membership.
