Description

We are a family of 4. mom, dad and 2 kids, boy and a girl. 12 and 14 years old.
We just bought a farm and are moving to the farm, from our house in Hvolsvöllur. The farm is a 10 minute drive from Hvolsvöllur. We mostly need help with household and cooking.
We are located in the south of Iceland where main attractions of the are really close by. Our workawayer would get to know Icelandic farm live and meet great people.
The farm is close to Vestmannaeyjar, Seljalandsfoss. If you are interested in hiking this is a great place.
worker needs to have driving licence and be able to work independently
we prefer female applicants

Originally four weeks planned, we ended up staying for two months at this wonderful place in South Iceland.
Right from the very first day, when we met this lovely family, they made us feel at home, sharing everything with us they had and always making sure, we felt welcomed. Guðrún is a fun person and a very caring mom, always asking, if you are … read more okay and making you laugh about her lovable craziness. She is very thoughtful and as soon as she knows you a little bit better, she is excited to share what's in her mind and conversations can reach a level, where she appears as both to you, a sincere friend and a sensitive mom. Hjálmar is the most hilarious person and will melt everyone's heart with his cheeky little comments and his silly and lovely way of being an awesome dad.
The work mainly consisted of taking care of the kids, two awesome little creatures who both found their way into our hearts incredibly fast. Emilía is a highly intelligent, lively girl with a strong will who was doing very well at teaching us some Icelandic, while Gissur is the most adorable and smiley little guy you can imagine. We loved watching him grow up during these two months and could not help but laugh about the cuteness of his many first tries.
The work also includes housework like cooking, cleaning and cleaning up after the kids (which can at times be every five minutes ;) ), and therefore makes up more than 5 hours per day most of the time. Since the family was really dependent on a babysitter while we were there, it was a little bit hard for us to get around and see much of the place sometimes, but Guðrún and Hjálmar were very open to talk about these things and you should not hesitate to ask, if you would like to take a day or two off. They also offered to give us a lift to any of the surrounding farms who had workawayers, so that we could meet and connect with like-minded people from the area and encouraged us to invite them to their house anytimes.
We could not thank this easy-going, lovely family more for being our home for two months and even inviting us to stay over Christmas, so that we were able to experience the Icelandic culture at first hand. We miss you guys (and lovely dog Týr) a lot and wish you all the best for everything coming up. We are excited to see you again very soon :* You are always welcome back here in Berlin.
