Darcy and Ed are a very friendly couple! They have the will and skill to do different jobs. At our place they mostly worked on harvesting and preparing plums for further processing, they made a large number of small and slightly larger repairs, and arranged paths for walking through forest and cleaned up a significant part of our environment.

We stayed at the place for four weeks in total. We were mostly involved in preparing for the plum harvest and then harvesting as well, and working on the trails; hard work but rewarding and educational. We stayed with Bif who oversees the volunteers. He is very kind, calm, has a great sense of humour and is clear about what work needs doing but
… read more never feels like a boss or manager, and is always happy to listen to suggestions or ideas. We only spent a few days with Marko because he went on holiday, but he came to get us from Karlovac and is chilled-out, funny, and very generous. Depending on how many workaways are there, accommodation might be limited but this can always be worked around if you don't mind giving up a little privacy (we were lucky because we were the first to arrive and had a great space). We made excellent use of the pizza oven and had some great pizza parties, also with guests, and sat at the fire making enormous quantities of plum jam in a cauldron. The forest is great for walking in, either on the trails or just wander around following Azra, the best dog in the world. The different fruit growing around is limitless, for instance we made blackberry jam, peach jam, and elderberry juice. Bukovica is a perfect place to chill out in tranquillity, but because of the isolation we think that it would be good if there were some bicycles available to get around. We had a great time staying there, we learned new skills, learned some Croatian, and met some great people also among the guests. If you want to escape the busy tourism of Croatia in the summer, than this is the place to be.You can only contact Workawayers who have an active membership.

Ael and Alison were part of our volunteer team in the season of harvesting plums. Except for they were always ready for an action with a high working energy they were also sharing a lot of interesting ideas, suggestions and stories. Passionate about a food they also prepared very delicious dinners for a crew. Both are very skillful in many ways

They were available to support mini projects of the day that were happening on the place in that period, like picking up and preservation fruits, making jams, movie nights, morning yoga. Apart from that they are pleasant and funny company. Good luck girls!

Our 3 week stay here was a lovely retreat, full of rewarding work and new cultural experiences. The work consisted of harvesting plums to bring to market, making the local spirit rakija and ongoing trail work on the property. We worked a consistent 5 hours in the morning and then had the rest of the day to enjoy with an average of two days off a
… read more week. Although Marko was out of town during our time there, he was easy to communicate with to organize our stay. And once we arrived we had the good fortune to live and work alongside Bif, a kind and laid back fellow who is down to earth with a quick-witted humor and Suza, a true gem! Between the staff, guests and friends who came to visit there was no shortage of top notch people!
Depending on how many Workawayers are there, lodging may not be private. We were quite lucky and got to stay in a work van converted into a camper - it was quite exceptional! Of note, the bathroom you will use is an older outdoor compost toilet (which is fine for us) with an ad hoc "tippy tap" hand washing station constructed by one of the other volunteers. However, there is no sink for things like brushing your teeth or washing your hands other than the kitchen sink -- just something to be aware of. Groceries are provided and meals are shared, with everyone taking turns to prepare and clean up respectively. Bif took great care to make sure everyone had what they needed and food was bountiful. A few evenings we made pizzas in the brick oven and welcomed guests around a big table -- a really special time. During days off Bif was very kind to drop us off at the train so we could have an overnight stay in Zagreb, his home city (and an amazing place). There are also lots of opportunities to walk the trails, enjoy the forest, wild forage and relax. I would advise bringing a book because unless you speak Croatian you will not be able to take advantage of their library. The internet works very well though, so you can always rely on that. Because of the remote location, as mentioned in the listing, it is best to have a car. Or if the property had bikes for Workawayers that would be ideal. During our stay most of the communications regarding project plans came from other Workawayers and we found there were miscommunications with the team since all were not included in the conversations. Despite that, it was a lovely time with wonderful people.
A few highlights during our stay was a group trip to Petrova Gora that Bif organized with a hike to the top to see the mysterious and intriguing Monument for the Uprising of the People. Definitely worth going to! We also joined forces with guests, volunteers and friends to make over 75 jars of plum jam over an open fire, stirring the big cauldron into the wee hours of the morning. And of course we have to mention the delicious crepe dinner with Guillaume and Lea! C'est magnifique!
Overall a wonderful experience in the heart of Croatia.
Sending much love to Bif, Suza, Iva and Azra the dog. Thank you wonderful humans (and furry friends too)!!!You can only contact Workawayers who have an active membership.

We stayed here with Bif and Marko for 6 weeks. It was our very first workaway, and we could not expect a better experience. We had the luck to enjoy the surroundings under different weathers. Covered by snow or bathed with sun, the isolated domain is always absolutely beautiful. The house of volunteers, shared with Bif, is really cosy, comfy and
… read more we loved the evenings by the stove. The work was well organized, we received feed backs and the communication was excellent. But most of all, this place felt amazing thanks to the people who built it…
We shared beauuutiful moments with Bif and Marko, and felt at home right away! We spend lots of our free time having some nice chats (and debates!), hanging out, sharing great moments and of course, petting Azra and Slapica.
We already miss the place, Bif and Marko, and this warm and friendly atmosphere they created there… For sure we will come back! That’s the way…!
Thank you for this great experience guys, you are the best! Živeli and see you soon :D

What to say about Carlito? :) He became part of our family right away! He is super hardworking and eager to do all tasks needed. He stayed with us for 3 months and we were sorry when he had to go due to his visa expiring. Definitely hoping he will visit again on his way back from Bosnia. Thank you for your hel and hope to see you again soon bro! :)

Is not too easy to say so many beautiful things about one place, like this one....
But the thing is that this two amazing guys make this place like that..... Marko and Bif made me feel like one more brother from the minute 1 until now.... I'm a traveler and I was doing volunteering for 5 years and is not easy to find the balance between good heart

No matters in wich moment of your life are you passing through ( party, sad, happy, self discovering, retreat, or just enjoying the moment ), this two beautiful guys and all their friends coming to visit all the time, will make you feel like at home ALWAYS.... They will give you everything you need to feel happy AND MUCH MORE......!!!
The "work" is so relaxed and easy going , that you will never feel you are working. The nature is AMAZING but the most important thing for me is the huge heart of this two persons.... I can just say good things about this magical place and I have in my memories just love about this place..... But this should be a message for you, traveler..... Don't think anymore and just send a message to Marko and be ready to bring love and good vibrations to this place, because this is what you will receive back......
Love you brothers and see you soon......!!!!!!You can only contact Workawayers who have an active membership.

WHAT A WONDERFUL COUPLE!!! Big thanks to Kitt and Rob for helping us. It was a last minute deal because they got stuck in Croatia so we didn't have time to plan anything. I thought they will stay for a week until they find another place since we already had two volunteers at our place. In the end they spend a month with us, bringing a new positive

Couldn’t have asked for a more welcoming experience! Thank you for creating a very loving and social environment yet also allowing privacy and quieter reflecting moments to take place when desired. The work was not a walk In the park, but the crew made up for all the sweaty days! ( Jebene šljive) ...Also a huge thank you to going above and beyond

I know how much of a challenge it is when coming from a very meat based cultural diet, but every family meal always had options for me, which was a huge relief! To sum it all up, if you enjoy outdoor physical work accompanied by a good tribe and a stunning landscape then jump on the opportunity to volunteer here. (And especially get to know Bif, he’s a legend!!) "Friends make the good times better and hard times easier". I think that this quote is the best description of my time here with these amazing guys! :) I spent 15 days in the astonishing nature of Bukovica during the plums harvesting season (August), two weeks of helping, laughing, partying, chilling. The job in the orchard is quite demanding
… read more mostly because of the weather conditions, but the whole experience definitely deserves the efforts and all the people do their best to foster the volunteers' weal. Usually the working schedules is planned together with the volunteers at the beginning and this is a further plus point to apply to this project. During my stay we mainly removed the sick plums from the trees in the orchards, we pruned some branches and collected the plums to make the rakija.
In the afternoon there was always the time to go to swim in the river (the 4 rivers of Karlovac are really close to Bukovica) all together, having a beer and a good conversation or just take some time off to relax. During the 2 days off per week it's possible to plan a trip to Zagreb (1 hour by bus), Karlovac (30 mins) or Plitvice Lake (1 hour by car).
The accomodation is shared with the other volunteers and it's surrounded by a beautiful wood (deers are usual guests, so keep your eyes open :) ) framed in a sky full of stars!
Summing up, I definitely advice this project to everyone that is around the area and willing to learn about permaculture, to spend some time in nature and meet lovely people :D
