    Description

Hi there, I'm setting a farm in the beautiful Ariège in the south of France. The project is to work on local community resilience, planting a lot of fruit trees, bushes, grafting wild trees. I'm based within an intentional community of young people with different skills and passions: woodwork, medicinal garden, music...We live at the "end of the road",secluded by beautiful forests filled with wildlife and paths.

    Cultural exchange and learning opportunities

We live surrounded by many different nationalities(60% of people in Ariège are new comers). The local market is vibrant and can look very exotic! I'm french but fluent in english and many languages are spoken around.
There are many events all the time for all tastes, eg: flea markets, local markets, dance, ecstatic dances, festivals, biodanza... and for nature lovers it's paradise, there are paths and trekks all around us.
Driver licence needed, I have a car you can borrow if/when needed.

    Help

It's a starting project ,there are lots of different things to do and learn. With a regular team of very skilled friends, we are about to start to build a wooden cabin at the edge of the forest, using the wood around us. So you can learn a lot in woodwork, wood carving because it will be aesthetic/arty as well as functional ! I have a good amount of friends with talent you can learn from (carpenter, stone work, wood carving...).
Planning on creating a big outdoor kitchen/living space, including a cob oven that will be used to bake bread for the tribe and drying fruits growing here!
There will be help needed in the plantation as well, I'm working with permaculture/agroforestry/syntropic and organic principles which you can learn. We've planted fruit trees using key lines design .
As we got a lot of chesnut trees, the idea is to clear a patch of forest and convert it in a chesnut production. There is an association nearby supporting local initiatives and hopefully we'll end up with local organic chesnut flour! I'm part of that project and you can join in all the events they offer about local resilience and how to achieve it.
I have started to graft wild trees on the forest edges, trying to create an edible landscape. We'll graft more in the summer.
I'm also welcoming my kids (8/11/14) every other week-end and half the holidays and they love interacting with playfull new comers! They speak French, English and Dutch fluently. They're great languages teachers!

I'm still renting a house in the countryside where you can have a bedroom. And on the farm you can sleep in a caravan or a tent if you prefer. Caravan is on site and I git a few tents available with all the beddings.
I'm no great cook! But hoping to improve and really wanting to developp outdoor cooking on fire and cast iron.
We'll share at least one meal a day together and you'll have anything at reach to cook your own if/when needed.
Forgot to say I got a 4 months old swiss white sheppard dog!

    What else ...

So yeah, as we live in the country, driving is necessary.
There are a lot of markets, events, concerts, festivals happening around. High mountains are 45m drive and there are lots of walks to do.
I do smoke tobacco (mostly homegrown and nit in the house). Got nothing against smokers! And I'm not too keen on heavy drinking.
