    Description

We are Petra (1977) and Jeroen (1984) and we just moved to a large rural property in a remote part of Asturias. Jeroen is a sourdough baker & chef, Petra is a carpenter and allround maker. We have three cats and a dog. Our house (Casa Riba) has plenty of projects great and small to be done. If you like DIYing and want to learn practical skills, you've come to the right place! If you'd like to learn sourdough baking, that is an option as well. And the food is always great (we'll happily accommodate vegetarians and vegans). We are part of the queer community, LGBTQ+ people very much welcome!

Our house is a slate house dating back to about 1880. It is partly renovated and partly original. The house is very large and you'll have your own room. The kitchen with old-fashioned wood stove is the best place for sharing food, drinking some sidra natural and talking the night away.

We are happy to come pick you up somewhere (within reason).

We used to do a lot of Couchsurfing (both as hosts and as guests) and we really loved meeting so many people from all over the world.

The community we moved to is very small and very rural. The natural surroundings are absolutely stunning. Tourism in the area (Los Oscos) focuses mainly on traditional artisanship such as blade smithing and fabric weaving.

    Help

All kinds of DIY. There's also heaps of antique furniture waiting for a new lease on life. There's a greenhouse to be set up. There's floors to be tiled, walls to be cleaned, cats to be cuddled and rooms to be cleared. Let us know what you might like and we'll find a project to match! If you want to learn a specific DIY or bread baking / cooking skill, let us know!

    Accommodation

Your own bedroom in the house. You'll share our bathroom. We have dinner at Spanish hours, so late in the evening! Dietary restrictions can (mostly) be accommodated for. Unfortunately the house is not very accessible for wheelchair users (there's steps to get to the bedrooms).

  • What else ...

    What else ...

It is a remote and mountainous area. If you do not have your own transportation your range around the house might be a bit limited (obviously you can tag along if we go somewhere), but the area is absolutely stunning and the main village is within walking distance.
