Description
Hi, I’m Nancy, born in Manhattan, I've been living in Pennsylvania the past 50+ years.
In January, 2024 I bought a finca/estate in Sinchal near Valdivia. It's in the province of Santa Elena, on Ecuador's west/pacific coast.
The property is 30 minutes (or a $7 taxi ride away) from the surf beach of Montañita, and 1.5 hours from Puerto Lopez. Both popular destinations and departure points for whale watching (July to November), trips to Isla de la Plata (also known as poor man’s Galapagos, and part of the Machalilla National Park), and much more...
Thanks to the help of volunteers from Workaway and other sources, the center became operational on June 1st.
For the next stage, we are inviting people with a love for:
* animal care and play
* bamboo construction
* plants and trees
* plant based products
* food gardens
* online marketing and advertising
* mural painting
...to join us.
This 12 acre (4.86 hectare) finca, has 400 moringa trees, 100 coconut trees, and a variety of fruit trees.
We also house 2 dogs, and 5 cats.
For an optimum experience, we prefer to host two individuals or a couple at a time, for 2 weeks or longer stays.
What we are looking for are people with skills, willing to exchange 4 hours of help per day in exchange for accommodations and all your meals.
For now it's preferred that applicants have a good command of English. Nosotras estamos aprendiendo español...and I needed a translator to include this. :)
The finca is a sober property and conveniently located, by a 5 minute stroll, to our local pueblo/village of Sinchal. There you'll find a daily fruit and veg market, grocery stores, pharmacies, street vendors, and some traditional family eateries.
Bars, cafes, restaurants, and more are in abundance starting from just a $1.50 taxi (less by bus) in the next town of Valdivia and all along the highway coast north and south.
We look forward to hearing from anyone who can join us on this next part of the venture and be part of something that is good for many…
Saludos,

Cultural exchange and learning opportunities
Both on the finca property and in the local town of Sinchal, we have the opportunity to engage with locals and practice improving or speaking Spanish.
Learning how locals 'be' and 'do' things is also a great learning opportunity because of how differently we approach "work" and "life" and the manner in which these are experienced.
The way of life is still traditional here, and while we tend to be far enough away to not hear some of the usual sounds from street vendors, dogs, and music, it is just a five minute stroll away when we do want to be amongst it.Help
In exchange for four (4) hours a day, five (5) days a week, engaging in these kinds of activities:
- Painting
- Weeding
- Raking and leaf collection for compost
- General maintenance
- Animal care
- Cooking / meal preparation
