    Description

Hola I'm Phoenix, a NICA native, who grew up in the US and came back to Nicaragua a decade ago. I bought an amazing piece of land (4 acres) here - 4 years ago - and have been working since then to really set up & improve the hostel for short and long term guests. I want the place to be a home away from home for traveller's, with an open house and chill vibe. It's a space to exchange, have fun and connect and enjoy this incredible island!

We are looking for English and Spanish speaking Workawayer's to assist us with day to day tasks at the hostel and to work alongside our General Manager, property caretaker and cleaning lady. We are open minded for any projects you wish to inject more creativity into our hostel - so bring your talents with you!

Our location is central to everything - free daily yoga, ecstatic dance events, bonfires, a chocolate factory, many cool hostels, delicious restaurants, shops, groceries, pharmacies - everything you need is within a 10 minute walk from the hostel. We have security cameras and wifi internet for digital nomads to enjoy.

The hostel has 14 dorm beds - split into 2 houses - and 4 private rooms... We have a large communal kitchen, covered hang out space, plenty of trees for hammocks, digital nomad ranchos (7) with electricity, a small pool, multiple showers, bathrooms and areas to host workshops and special events.

Our General Manager owns and operates a tourism website and showcases all the tourism attractions for the island, restaurants, health care providers, real estate, bus schedule, ferry schedule, moto rentals and taxi's - he is also a former Workaway'er in Canada and Nicaragua and has decided to stay and work with us - we are happy to have his experience and maturity to help manage the Workaway volunteers.

    Cultural exchange and learning opportunities

I was born in Nicaragua and lived here in my childhood, then lived in the States for most of my adult life. I am deeply attached to the Nicaraguan culture, I love to share the food, the language and the ways of my country. Traveler's who come here are welcomed to do the same so we learn something from everyone. Especially through cooking and sharing meals together with great conversation :)

  • Help

    Help

We mainly need some help around maintenance, painting and taking care of the garden, but we have many projects going on that you can participate in. We always appreciate people with carpentry skills to fix up things around the guest houses, artists to bring color around the place, people who like to cook for the team, gardeners and all sorts of chill people that want to add to the place and help out. What kind of skills do you have?

    Accommodation

The volunteers usually sleep in the dormitories or a jungle room next to the shared kitchen. Depending on how booked we are, there's also a possibility to stay in the main house which hosts 3 bedrooms, a shared living room and a bathroom. We will adapt your living arrangements based on the needs of the business and keep your best interests and safety in mind at all times. Volunteers are also provided our "Nica Tipico" breakfast everyday - eggs, gallo pinto (mucho), tomato, cucumber, seasonal fruit (availability) and hot coffee (always). We also have a communal kitchen where you can prepare a meal or snack as well.

  • What else ...

    What else ...

The place is at the center of the action on this side of the Maderas volcano here. The island offers excellent multi-ethnic food - only minutes away... we are also located next to the chocolate factory - El Pital. There is another hostel across the street from us that offers FREE daily yoga as well that you could participate in...

We are also a short walk from the lake if you want to go for a swim. There is a farmers market every Saturday about a 20 minute walk away. We can also connect you with licenses guides to hike up Concepcion or Maderas any day!

Our network of business contacts on the island is far and wide - we can help arrange a kayak tour, moto rentals, almost anything you need to enjoy your experience here

There are also so many spots around the property to hang out in beautiful nature with an amazing view of the volcano at all times of day, you will make yourself comfortable here and hopefully share the experience with others and return to see us often in the future!

    Can host digital nomads

We currently are in the process of upgrading our internet - we also have 7 small rancho's across the property with electricity to provide more privacy and quiet for your digital nomad needs. We also have a battery backup on our system as well for the power fluctuations that are common in Central America. The vista of the jungle, the lushness of our property and the Concepcion Volcano in the background is a nice backdrop for your computer screen.

    Space for parking camper vans

We do have parking space for Campervans and tent trailers, but there is no electrical hookups, but the area is flat and secure - we are fully fenced and can provide usage to the amenities to our Campervan guests. The road is pretty rocky and rough and may not be 100% suitable.

  • Can possibly accept pets

    Can possibly accept pets

Yes, but be aware we have Bela - our beautiful dog, she is the queen of the property and a real friendly dog... We do not take any risk or liability for other animals on our property. It is best to visit first and see how they get along and then make a decision from there.
