    Description

Hello, I am Joe from the UK. A young guy crafting a new life away from the chaos of city-life. I first came to Baja Sur in May 2021, and I knew within a few weeks that my next chapter was going to centre here. I don't know how long that will be but right now it feels great to be here and working on the projects I have going. My main project currently is: designing and building 'spaces' (tiny homes) on the back of big vintage trucks. Unique spaces to live and to host quirky experiences and events.

Todos Santos is a raw but fast-growing town that grants me and many others freedom to express and explore - self and creativity without fear of over-regulation. My passions are in music, design, food and nature. I host some live events.

So, what am I doing here?

I actually landed in Todos Santos as a workaway volunteer in 2021 - escaping the pandemic. I planned to spend two weeks here, but quickly felt magnetised to stay. There were a lot of initial observations of the town and wider area that aligned with my character. I love architecture, design, learning about new construction methods, materials, and figuring out how to integrate them into new modern-organic building styles. This place is perfect for this personal ongoing discovery. I have some longer-term goals related to this, but in the meantime I am expanding the truck empire. I currently have two.

    Cultural exchange and learning opportunities

I am offering a collaborative, open-minded, creative and fun exchange project. I want volunteers to really feel like they are part of the project's progression. And with this fast-pace construction style they can really get a sense of reward. The lifestyle here is incredible, there is so much nature to explore on foot, bike, kayak, with 4x4, or a snorkel! Not long ago, I was a volunteer looking for a new experience in a new world. I know exactly what volunteers are looking for, and now I am able to offer those exact things to you.

When I arrived here after escaping lockdowns, I had ZERO idea of what to expect, literally none. Nevermind what I was going to end up doing. It was complete luck and a series of jumping-on opportunities. From the day I arrived, I have been making videos on one of my Instagram accounts. Check my IG trinon__ for a look at my lens of Baja. I enjoy looking back and seeing how life has progressed here.

Traveller's can learn as much as they put their mind to. If more manually focused they can prioritise learning about different materials and building skills. But equally, if more conceptually focused, can prioritise or foster digital skills and design tasks. But always always with the option to do something you have never tried before.

I am always absorbing the Baja and wider-Mexican culture and I love learning and being around it. But I have a lot to learn. I am committed to improving my Spanish this year, which is a huge part of that journey.

Ultimately, I want to create a collaborative work-space where people can take inspiration from the things that I have learnt and developed here, and develop that inspiration further in their own lives, wherever they may chose to take it, with the goal of growing community and encouraging people to express all of their unique versions of creativity.

  • Help

    Help

I am looking for creative and skilled people to help me grow the project and develop a rewarding feel-good, fun community. Physical may include: building out the trucks - carpentry, welding, painting, constructing, general land maintenance or gardening. Other tasks may include: designing, photography, video making, social media input, digital software tasks, Incorporative AI tasks... etc. I am open and look forward to hearing your ideas and thoughts on the projects.

It could be anything and depends what specifically I might be working on at that time :) always fun

We will tend to work early mornings to beat the heat, so you'll have the majority of the day to enjoy whatever you please.

    Accommodation

ACCOMMODATION: The accommodation I have to offer volunteers is on a piece of land with incredible mountain and town views. There is a spacious tiny house with two double beds and also a tent. This is where I am working on the next truck project. There is an outdoor kitchen with large fridge and also complete outdoor bathroom facilities w/hot water next to an amazing mango tree and views of the town (really cool lit up at night) 🥭😍

FOOD: I will provide basic food items for volunteers in the camp kitchen - such as rice, beans, pasta, lentils, coffee, tea etc. Unlimited mangoes June-September. I enjoy cooking and sharing meals together here with friends.

    I currently live off-site

  • What else ...

    What else ...

There is so much to explore.
A short walk to town and the beautiful plaza where there is often markets and events 10 minutes, and also not far from the incredible local beaches 15 minute walk. Nightlife, events, activities and food spots, I have all the info.

I like to do a lot. I live a fairly fast pace life, I love almost all sports, the ocean, kayaking, fishing, snorkeling, hiking, camping, surfing, volleyball, futbol.

The only thing I ask of guests is general respect to those around you and for the space you are entering.

You will have a f’ing blast, excited to meet you all.
