Description
We are a young couple, originally from the Netherlands. We have moved to Galicia, Spain, in order to escape the busy life together with our border collie. We now live in a big 'finca' with a lot of land, and there's always something to do! Garden work, painting, walking the dog, learning Dutch (and teaching us Spanish!), sharing meals, learning about cultures, etc. Our main goal with the land is to eventually give most of it back to nature, so creating a forest with native plants and tree's. The rest of the land will be our own garden.
Our dream is to live as self sustainable as possible, in a slow pace. We'd like to start with having a big vegetable garden that provides food throughout the entire year. We both had a working 9-to-5 mentality back in the Netherlands, and that 'rat race' wasn't making us happy. Now that we live in Spain (we've only recently moved!) we want to built onto that dream. A quite, calm life with a big garden, a place where creativity can evolve. We're both creative souls and would love to teach you our trades and skills, and we'd also love to learn from you. Maybe, in the future, we'd like to start an 'albergue donativo' (a free inn) since we live very very closely to the Camino. The Camino de Santiago de Compostela means a great deal to us!
Our project/dream/lifestyle is simply to... live life to the fullest with each other, with volunteers, with friends and our beloved dog!!

Cultural exchange and learning opportunities
We think the cultural exchange that comes with hosting travellers is the nicest thing about WorkAway! Being from the Netherlands, we sure have a different culture than Spain (and even more different than Galicia!). We are happy to share with you our Dutch culture, and explore the Spanish/Galician culture together. I have lived in Barcelona for quite some time, so I am not totally unaware of Spain! I do know all about the food, the festivities and even a bit about the political system.
Galicia has a very rich culture, which is totally different from Spain! We are still exploring it ourselves. The food is amazing, we know that for sure. People are more reserved than the average Spaniard, but nonetheless incredibly kind and helpful.
What we as a couple bring to the table is that we are trying to create a self sustainable life. Since we have so much land and quite a big house, we see ourselves sharing that space with travellers, volunteers and friends. We would love to show, share and teach our ideology to new WorkAway'ers, especially the fact that we try to live slower, to live more aware and to live with a kind heart! So sharing meals, having meaningful conversations, responding to the urge to slow down will be what we bring to the table. And speaking of tables: we love board games, too.
And... Language! I used to be a teacher of language in the past and I'd love to share my knowledge about the Dutch language.
Projects involving children
This project could involve children. For more information see our guidelines and tips here.

Help
We'd like help with our 1.7 hectare (4+ acres) land. Think about removing brambles, building sheds, creating a vegetable garden, taking down ivy, building fences, power washing terraces, etc. We'd also like help on the inside! Painting walls, redecorating rooms, assembling furniture, making art murals on walls, cooking dinner, cleaning, etc.
We can teach you a great deal about trimming bushes, about making vegetable gardens and about 'slow living'. We can show you Dutch culture (even though we are in Spain) and teach you how to cook!

Accommodation
We live in a big house with no neighbors (300m²). You will have your own bedroom with a queen size bed and your own bathroom. We share the kitchen and living room. We appreciate sharing meals (especially dinner)!

What else ...
We are still figuring our the public transport situation ourselves... There are two towns close by where busses stop, we can absolutely pick you up there (Vegadeo or A Pontenova). Our house is around 5 kilometers from the Camino de Santiago de Compostela, meaning if you're curious about the pelgrimage, we'd love to host you, too. I walked the Camino a couple of years back and it was transformative! Cities you can explore in the neighborhood are Lugo (1.5 hour by bus), Santiago de Compostela and A Coruña. There's also the Playa de las Catedrales, a beautiful beach half an hour away from our house!

Limited internet access

We have pets

We are smokers

Can host families

Can host digital nomads
We have fibre internet connection, meaning that it's really fast.

Space for parking camper vans
We have a lot of space and land, and your campervan can even be parked under a shed. However, we value a shared living experience and would like you to be part of our household: staying in one of our bedrooms, sharing meals together, and participating in daily life. We are not looking to provide our land as a place to simply park and stay independently in your van.

Can possibly accept pets
We have a very active Border Collie. We don't mind hosting people with dogs, but we do want to know it beforehand and discuss it, too. Not every dog goes greatly with our dog.
