Description
Home Farm, Murcia. We are a registered charity caring for abandoned, abused, neglected equines. This is ran at our family home by myself Colin and my partner Sebastian. We get the equines back to good health, then rehome them. Then starting all over again. We also have various other animals to care for. Alpacas, parrots, pigs, sheep, goats, meerkats, chickens, tortoises.
The farm is ran by donations and volunteers. We have weekly volunteers that live locally. Plus we have mortohome

Cultural exchange and learning opportunities
We are in a typical Spanish town with very little tourists. This is the perfect opportunity for those wanting to learn/practice Spanish. Also those that speak Spanish that would like to practise English. As most of our volunteers are native English speakers. Murcia city centre is 15 minutes by car and full of beautiful architecture.
You will also learn basic animal care, how to clean, feed, look after the animal's. We are a rescue centre and often have the vets at least once per week. So the opportunity to observe veterinary treatments is also on offer.
Although you will have a lot of free time as we only require 2 hours per day. Those that want to learn more grooming the horses, handling horse etc can be done in your free time. Fully training will be given on this from myself, Colin. To keep people and the horses the same.
Not every Workaway will have the same physicality, ability , experience. But it is a physical role. We do try and tailor the tasks to individual people.
You will be part of our team in the morning or evening, meeting our weekly volunteers. You will be giving a time table for the week, when you are needed. So you can plan your free time to make the most of your stay. Your free time you will probably be on your own, or socialising with any Motorhomes that are parked up. You will be surrounded by the animals, absolutely heaven for some people. But we are family and live on-site so easy to reach us at any point.
There are beautiful walks and cycle routes around the area. -

Help
We ask anyone parking up or staying in the accommodation to volunteer 2 hours of their day. This is set out each day and tasks given. It depends how many weekly volunteers we have that day.
The tasks are simple, however slightly physical. Mucking out stables, poo picking paddock, pushing wheelbarrows, lifting bales of hay, preparing and feeding the animals.
You are either helping us out around sunrise for a couple of hours or at sunset.
After your couple of hours it gives you all day to chill, explore the local area, do some online work if you're a digital nomad or, if you would like to help more there's always a project on the go! -

We are a rescue centre in Spain but it’s mainly English volunteers. So great place to practice English and Spanish. -
Accommodation
We have a mobile home on site. Very secure and safe. Has a separate double bedroom, bathroom, small kitchen / lounge. The lounge has a fold out double bed.
This accommodation would suit a single person/ couple in the double room. Or two friends, one taken the double bed in the bedroom and the other on the fold out double bed in the lounge. There is a large wooden Terrace for chilling and eating that over looks the horses paddocks. -
What else ...
Alicante Airport is 45 minutes from the farm. Murcia airport is 20 minutes. There is a public bus to get from Alicante airport to Murcia City centre. The town is a 20minute walk from the farm.
