  • Description

    Description

We are two families (4 adults and 4 kids, all< 6 years) living on a former farmhouse in the countryside of the southern Netherlands, near the Belgian border. Our property covers approximately 10,000 m² and offers plenty of space, nature, animals, gardens and ongoing outdoor projects.

We enjoy rural living and are gradually improving and maintaining our property. There is always something to do: help in the vegetable garden, caring for animals, maintaining the grounds, creating new outdoor spaces or working on practical projects around the farm.

What makes our place unique is that Workawayers stay in their own fully equipped guest accommodation on the property. The accommodation has its own kitchen, bathroom and living space and can host up to four people.

This is not a spare room in our house, but a guest accommodation that is normally rented out as a B&B. It is highly appreciated by guests and currently holds an average rating of 4.8 out of 5. We believe that having your own comfortable space makes it easier to enjoy both the work and the experience of living in the Dutch countryside.

The accommodation is ideal for couples, friends travelling together or families with children who would like more privacy and comfort than a typical Workaway experience.

We are looking for people who enjoy being outdoors, appreciate nature and are willing to help with practical tasks around the property. No special skills are required; enthusiasm, reliability and a positive attitude are much more important.

  • Cultural exchange and learning opportunities

    Cultural exchange and learning opportunities

We enjoy meeting people from different countries and backgrounds and sharing experiences, stories and everyday life. For us, hosting is about much more than getting help with projects around the property – it is an opportunity to learn from each other and build meaningful connections.

Workawayers will experience life on a former Dutch farmhouse with 10,000 m² of land, animals, gardens and outdoor projects. We are happy to share what we know about gardening, growing vegetables, caring for animals, maintaining a rural property and the practical aspects of country living.

As a family, we mainly eat vegetarian and vegan food. Shared meals are often a nice opportunity to exchange recipes, talk about food, sustainability and cultural traditions from different parts of the world. We always enjoy learning how people live, cook and celebrate in other countries.

Our property is located in the countryside near Zundert, between Breda and Antwerp, giving Workawayers the opportunity to experience both Dutch and Belgian culture. During free time, there are many opportunities for walking, cycling, visiting local towns, exploring nature areas and discovering historic cities nearby.

We believe cultural exchange works both ways. While guests may learn something about Dutch rural life, we also enjoy hearing different perspectives, learning new skills and gaining insight into other cultures and ways of life. Many of the people who stay with us leave us with new ideas, interesting conversations and lasting memories.

  • Help

    Help

The help we are looking for is mainly focused on outdoor help around our farmhouse and property.

Our 10,000 m² property includes gardens, a vegetable garden, animals, trees, lawns and various ongoing improvement projects. The type of help varies depending on the season, weather and current priorities.

    Typical tasks may include:

Weeding and maintaining gardens and flower beds
Watering plants, trees and the vegetable garden during dry periods
Planting, pruning and general garden care
    Feeding and caring for animals
Cleaning animal areas and removing manure
Mowing, trimming and general property help
    Helping with outdoor improvement projects
Painting, repairs and small practical help around the property
General help with keeping the grounds tidy and attractive

Most of the help is outdoors, so it is best suited to people who enjoy being active and do not mind getting a little dirty.

We usually work alongside our Workawayers and enjoy sharing knowledge and practical skills. Depending on the project, you may learn about gardening, vegetable growing, animal care.

No specialist experience is required. Some tasks can be physically demanding, but we are happy to explain everything and match activities to your abilities and interests whenever possible.

We value reliability, a positive attitude and a willingness to help much more than previous experience. Whether you are experienced in outdoor work or simply eager to learn, we look forward to working together.

  • Accommodation

    Accommodation

Workawayers stay in a private guest accommodation on our property that is normally rented out as a B&B and receives excellent reviews from guests (currently rated 4.8 out of 5).

The accommodation is fully equipped and includes:

    Private entrance
    Comfortable double bed
Sofa bed for up to two additional guests
    Private bathroom
    Fully equipped kitchen
    Living and dining area
    Wi-Fi
    Outdoor seating area

The accommodation can host up to four people and is ideal for couples, friends travelling together or families with children. A baby cot can also be arranged if needed.

We mainly eat vegetarian and vegan food. Workawayers have access to their own kitchen and can prepare meals independently, but we also enjoy sharing meals together whenever possible. We aim for a flexible combination of privacy, independence and social interaction.

We provide three meals a day as part of the Workaway exchange. Because the guest accommodation has a fully equipped kitchen, breakfast and lunch are usually self-catered using ingredients that we provide.

For dinner, we also provide ingredients so Workawayers can cook for themselves in their own kitchen. During the weekend (Friday to Sunday) we usually coordinate plans together, and our general intention is to share dinner once or twice during a stay whenever schedules allow.

We mainly eat vegetarian and vegan food.

  • What else ...

    What else ...

Our property is located in a rural area, so having your own transport can be convenient, but it is not essential. We can arrange pick-up and drop-off from Breda Central Station at the beginning and end of your stay.

During your free time, you can enjoy walking and cycling in the countryside, visit nearby Breda or Antwerp, explore local forests and nature areas, or simply relax and enjoy the peace and space around the farm.

We may also be able to lend bicycles, including electric bikes, when they are not being used by our family.

We appreciate people who enjoy rural life, respect animals, nature and shared spaces, and are comfortable living in a family environment.

If you have any questions before applying, please feel free to ask. We are always happy to discuss whether our place is a good match for both sides.
