Pls. specify your stay of duration with the below mentioned defined weeks and periods.
About myself: My name is Pietro and I live and work in germany close to Frankfurt am Main and I travel two times during the year to sicily to my olive grove of my ancestors in order to continue in the fourth generation to cultivate, manage the olive harvest in october and pruning in march.
I'm not harvesting for my living. My main job is in the automotive industry. The limited produced is only for family and friend consumption. I'm not a dealer I hobby farmer who is trying to keep alive a 100 year old ancient organic natural olive while living abroud from a distance of app. 2400 KM
Since 2020 I hosted app. more then 100 international unpaid volunteers and made a lot of amazing and positive experiences.
During this experience you are part of a team between 2-4 volunteers or bigger team depends on the week. So you will join other workawayers from all over the world and make also friendships, connections and cultural exchanges & experience.
In the past years I have hosted only unpaid volunteers and organized big teams of 8-12 international volunteers with sharing free accommodation and free vegetarian meals (breakfast, lunch, dinner) for great motivated team with a workout spirit in the beautiful nature of my olive grove.
Each participant took with them an unforgettable memory.
Finally after this experience every participant who joined will understand how much effort is needed to produce an organic olive oil and how it should smell & taste. You will see and learn the complete cycle from the tree to the oil.
I'm looking for motivated and capable volunteers to help and support me harvesting olive trees and make a nice and friendly experience with my project "olive grove".
Believe me that the harvest tasks is physically challenging because harvesting olives is a manual task and physically demanding and not everybody is capable to do it.
We use during the harvest in october electrical harvesting equipment with a battery (back mounted or car battery on a portable carrier). They are called in italian "abbacchiatore"
If you are interested in participating in the olive harvest, then I recommend to do a quick search in google or youtube & watch a video of this harvesting method with keywords "abbacchiatore/Pellenc/Campagnola."
And if you are convinced that you can handle the usage of this tools and the harvesting work, then start your application message with “I checked the harvesting method on YouTube with these manual electric harvesting tools".
The expectation is that volunteers are motivated and are willing physically ready to do tasks together in a team and help and support each other.
Locally paid worker will do the transport of the olives from the olive grove to the mill with a Pick-up.
Free accommodation is given in my private house in a double bed or if available a single bed (optional/exception).
As requested from the workaway administration since this year 2025 food/meals expenses are under responsibility of the guests or volunteers.
Volunteers are allowed to use my kitchen and prepare and cook their own food & meals and take care about the cleaning of the kitchen equipments, table, wash & clean dishes and kitchen equipments (not paid) and the cleaning of their bathroom (not paid).
You can also choose to go to the local restaurant or bar (closed 1-2 days a week).
In case you are looking for paid position only pls. mention and write to me "looking for paid position only".

I can recommend Dominik for other host.
Originally, the plan was to harvest the olives close to the house but it was raining a lot at that time so that we could not start the harvest. Although I mainly came for the olives, I had a lot of fun without being able to help with the harvest. We cleaned the house, cut firewood and went… read more
