About the Housekeeping position:
We have a dorm only for staff, with a closet, dressers, bathroom, shower & refrigerator. The room only sleeps 6 volunteers at most.
5 days on, 2 days off. Working 5 hours a day or less depending on what needs to be done and how fast you get it done (correctly).
For morning and night checks we will rotate staff, thats where one volunteer will check the house for dirty sinks & counters, empty the trashcans, and just check that everything is presentable at 7:30 am along with setting up breakfast for the guest to cook. Then at 9 pm another check of the house and watering plants on plant days. It normally should take under 30 mins.
10 am to 1 or 2 pm is cleaning the bathrooms, kitchens, making beds, sweeping and moping. Then the rest of the day is yours :-)
For the Handyman position: Normal repairs a hostel/house would need, painting, fixing a running toilet, leaky sink, sagging screen door, replacing a door handle. There will also be larger projects we'll want to build like a new picnic table and lounge chairs for the rooftop terrace, a water mister for the lounge chairs, a cool outdoor bed for lounging, designing a bathroom/shower with new tiles and lots of plants to give it an outdoor nature feel. Building a 6 foot tall Jenga game, there are always fun projects going on to keep you day from becoming repetitive.
