Description
I grew up on the south shore of Long Island New York and spent time in NYC working and living in different areas in my early 20s. I've had a longtime international career as a music therapist and part-time university professor. I am a 73 year old man with a lot ideas.
This property was formerly an active farm with hundreds of animals/fields/greenhouses/two sawmills and more. It has been a place of exchange through music and culture gaining international recognition in the 80s-90s. We are no longer an active farm/keep animals, but we continue to hold international performing arts programs.
At this time, we are still seeking folks in the workaway network to help actualize the programs we do have planned for the 2023 season. Maintenance for the property is ongoing throughout the year. At this time the state of Maine has a low incidence rate of the virus.
We would like potential Workawayers to feel a connection with our special history, and bring their unique skills to help make the Arts venue an even more vibrant community resource.
Per state guidelines, any position here on the property is paid minimum hourly wage.Types of help and learning opportunities

Cultural exchange and learning opportunities
For the last 30 years, I've personally travelled internationally to many countries. This includes multiple trips to both Russia and Japan. I can speak some Russian and Japanese. I have a good deal of international experience and contacts. I have lectured and taught in universities in Europe, Russia and Japan. My professional field is music therapy which encompasses the art, power, beauty, and joy of music, as well as psychology and pathology. I am willing to share my experiences and knowledge in regards to developing projects internationally as well as in a coastal rural setting such as Maine.
Our location in coastal, rural Maine offers a unique taste of country life. There are plenty of hiking trails right by the water as well as good seafood to eat (**lobster). We are walking distance from a meditation center.
With our location and our unique space I can offer you the opportunity to pursue your creative interests in regard to music, art, farming, and overall project development in areas that spark your interest.Host offers payment in line with the minimum wage

Help
The property is located on the coast of Maine near Acadia National Park. It's a very nice area that offers culture, outdoors, restaurants, and more. My property is located on an old farm with seven buildings. We have a seasonal performing arts program in a great, old Maine barn with a Steinway grand piano. We are looking for assistance in developing the performance art program.
We are looking for help with the land including:
- landscaping
- groundwork
- gardening (you have the possibility of creating an organic vegetable garden on the land)
We are looking for help with building maintenance including:
- painting
- minor carpentry
- cleaning
- help with sorting, downsizing, general organization

The property is rustic. There are three separate buildings that I offer for work exchange guests. One is a somewhat primitive, cozy loft space - with a full kitchen and washer/dryer downstairs. The other is a unique bunkhouse with a beautiful view/vista of the mountains of Acadia national park (but no running water). Both buildings offer high speed internet and nearby parking. There is a nice outdoor shower on the property and there are two bathrooms located in the concert barn which is a short distance from both spaces. (During the winter months, the concert barn bathrooms and the outdoor shower are closed so that the pipes won't freeze.) Dependent upon the dates and duration of your stay other accommodations/facilities may be open to you. You are responsible for cooking your own meals.
What else ...
This a rural area with limited public transportation, however there are buses to Acadia National Park and other nearby towns. We are walking distance to trail systems and a nature preserve on the water. In addition, a short drive will take you to beautiful areas to bike, swim, kayak, and hike from May - October. The nearest airport is the Bar Harbor Trenton airport, however, there is a bigger, more accessible airport in Bangor which is one hour away. Having a car is a definite plus! For the right person there is the possibility of me loaning my car for help with trips to town/etc.
