Description
We are a family practicing Natural Farming in a land approximately one hectare. It is an eco-project that was founded 12 years ago and the last 3 years is growing rapidly. The farm started as a melon and vine yard 65 years ago and for many years in the land was cultivated monoculture grains until 12 years ago when the first trees were planted.
Mostly olive trees and vines at the beginning. We met P.Manikis who is the first Natural farmer in Greece, and worked with him as volunteers for some time learning all possible about natural farming. When we started with the farm 3 years ago, we started with vegetables and chickens.
Now the farm has approximately 1000 plants witch includes fruit trees, olives , vines, forest trees and shrubs, berries and some medicinal plants. Our goal is to make a sustainable garden that feeds many families with fresh organic food.
We are looking for 2 skilled persons who are into vegetable farming so they can help us maintain the market garden we are running and learn with us as much as possible about vegetables and the system we are using
We run a CSA market garden and in the years to come we want to approach at least 100 families. The system we are using is a no-dig approach so we do the less intervention we can. From May to October we start with breakfast at 6:00 in the morning and the work starts at 6:30Types of help and learning opportunities

Cultural exchange and learning opportunities
We can provide them all the info about how our Greek ancestors lived in the area, our language and some historical stories about Greek culture. But mostly travelers can learn all about old building technics and about the way of living in a natural farm with permaculture principles.WE hope to learn anything that they could teach us about the way of living they have in their culture, maybe new languages
Help
This year we are converting our garden to a no-dig approach so most of the work is maintaining the garden. We really are in need for skilled gardeners or farmers to exchange ideas and farming cultures but we are willing to train people as well so everyone is suitable as long as they are willing to work outdoors and with their hands learning about plants and market gardening. We also need some people willing to learn and work with fruit trees, eco-protecting them and observing and recording things. There is also need for dayly feeding chicks dogs and cats, changing their waters and once a week cleaning the chicken coop

The accommodation is in tents anywhere in the farm that gives privacy because the farm is approximately 1 hectare.WE have some tents here but travelers are free to carry their own if they want to.Travelers should carry their own sleeping bags even though we have 2-3 here.We do not use any chemicals at the farm and because the water we use falls into a pond we would appreciate if carrying their own organic soap and toothpaste.
Most of the vegetables we eat are cultivated in the farm.We can cook all together or we can take care of the cooking and eating all together. In summertime we start our day at 6 o clock feeding dogs cats etc and at 6 30 we start with some work after breakfast.Mostly we try to eat plant based but if needed we cook meat and dairy if anyone wants to.What else ...
There are beautiful sandy beaches very close to the farm and every 15 minutes there is an urban bus line that goes to the main city(Thessaloniki) that is 25 klm from the farm

It was our first workaway, so we didn't have any expectations. But in our opinion, this adventure made high standards for our future workaways.
We helped with building their house and worked in the garden and that was really inspiring!
Work was rather hard, but… read more

Dimitri is a good guy who cares about his volunteers and doesn't ask anybody to do something he wouldn't do himself. I watched him work literally single-handed for my entire stay, with one hand in bandages after he cut his finger (hope you're healing quick,… read more
He worked with passion in any task he was given and once he finished with weeding most of the tomato field he got into the building of our straw clay house in witch he showed the same skills and passion as in every task.
