UPDATE 28TH JULY
AT THE MOMENT, WE NEED HELP MOSTLY FOR THE GARDEN : A LOT OF WEEDING AND SPACE-CLEARING TO PUT UP THE COMPOST TOILET AND FREE THE WALLS OF THE HOUSE
IF YOU WISH TO TAKE ON A SEPCIFIC PROJECT, ALSO, LIKE THE HERB SPIRAL OR THE FRUIT DRYER (see below the on-standby projects), YOU WILL BE MOST WELCOME TO DO IT !
Hi ! We are a family of 4, looking forward to hosting you in our beautiful ancient farm in Burgundy ! We will need help with the insulation and renovation of our attic.
We are a little hamlet on a hill, 7kms from the closest town, St Julien du Sault. It is located in Burgundy, near famous wine and cheese sites...
Our house is a very old and typical farm : surrounded by woods and fields, it is composed of two big buildings (old barns) made of flint stones.
On our hectare of land, we want to give a second life to this old and beautiful farm. Our project is to transform it into a place where all kinds of activities can flourish : vegetable-farming, trainings, hosting of groups in search of a beautiful, quiet and inspiring place for their creations...
On the ground floor, we will develop both barns into multifunctional spaces which will be put at the disposal of all kinds of groups like theatre companies, musicians, trainings, children, etc. We would also like this place to become a place which will inspire reflections about modern and alternative agricultural production, food, health, etc.
In the garden, in the medium term we would like to create vegetable garden, an orchard (already in part there but to be developed), a small plant-based waste-water cleaning pond (the attics will have compost toilets and rain-water showers), a chicken coop and a few sheep to take care of grass-mowing.
In general we are open to ideas and creative people !
In the past years, we have been insulating the floor of the attic, i.e. the ceiling of the house. In the summer of 2016, we will start the insulation of the roof. In the longer term, we would like to make both buildings' attics into sleeping and common rooms for the groups we will be hosting. The attic of the house will be dedicated to hosting volunteers.
For our first summer working with volunteers, we plan to finish insulating the attic on top of the house : we will put in place the wooden structure, then the hemp wool and then the finishes. Once this is done, we will be able to start hosting volunteers in other seasons than just summer.
We will be working with a local carpenter who will show us the techniques and will guide us in our work. If we are efficient and fast, we will also start renovating the inside walls of the attic with a traditional rough plaster made of lime and sand.
