Learn what it's like to live in an environmentally progressive, peaceful country with no standing army. Costa Rica has been #1 in the world for six years running on the Happy Planet Index and is known throughout the world as a country that is committed to sustainability, social justice and a better future for us all. 99% of the electricity we use comes from renewable sources. Connect with our wonderful crew of Costa Rican artisans: Oscar, Fran, Jose Maria and Alcidiades, who are a wealth of knowledge on Costa Rican history, rural culture, flora and fauna. Working with these men has been life affirming and life changing for me, as I'm sure it will be for you as well. If you want to practice your Spanish via total immersion this is an excellent place to do it.
Are you a friendly, physically fit, nature-loving, Spanish and/or English speaking person or couple with a strong work ethic, light construction skills, sense of adventure and good people skills? This could be the perfect opportunity for you. We are looking for a few good people to help at our brand new jungle resort project in Uvita, Costa Rica, which is not yet open but scheduled to be finished in 2020. You would be responsible for housesitting, general maintenance and cleaning, some gardening and light construction helping our Costa Rican construction crew of Oscar, Fran, Jose Maria and Alciades. Working with these guys has been a wonderful experience of cultural exchange for me, as it will be for you too. In addition to their construction experience, they have a vast knowledge of Costa Rican culture as well as a very wide knowledge of the flora and fauna of this amazing country. Whenever I have a question about identifying a particular bird, animal sound or variety of tree, more than nine times out of ten they know the answer and are happy to generously share their knowledge with me. They are also genuinely nice people and it has been an absolute pleasure working with them and now counting them all as friends.
The period would be from a minimum of 30 days to a maximum of 90 days.
We aim to be an eco-friendly establishment. 99% of the electricity we use comes from renewable sources and the hot water we use for showering comes from solar panels on the roof. We do not have a vehicle here but you can walk or bike into town for groceries, banks, pharmacies and everything else you may need. Keep in mind that our access drive is quite steep, so you should be a person in good physical condition in order to walk up and down the drive. Local taxis are also available and are fairly reasonable. The closest stores and restaurants are about a five to ten minute walk and to get to the north end of Uvita is about a 40 minute walk (15 minutes by bike). We are located a 15 minute walk (five minutes by bike), from the incredible Whale's Tail Beach of Marino Ballena National Park. The Uvita area is known for its incredible biodiversity, beautiful beaches and exotic wildlife. Monkeys, toucans, scarlet macaws and many other animals are regularly seen on or near our property. This area truly is a paradise.
