Description
Hello! My name is Janne and I live on my family farm located near Bruge along with my husband Maxime and our two children aged 4 and 1. Our farm has been in the family for generations, and we feel incredibly lucky to raise our children surrounded by animals and nature.
We are located in Damme, a half hour bike ride from Bruges or 40 minutes from the sea. From the train station in Bruge, Brussels is just over an hour away, and Ghent or Antwerp are even closer.
While we are close to the cities, our home offers a peaceful and authentic Belgium experience. We have a wonderful mix of animals, including a horse, a bull, chickens, sheep (and some spring lambs!), pigs (and piglets), a friendly dog, and a few affectionate cats. My grandmother also lives on the property, in her own house close by.
Our house is spacious, and we have a private guest bedroom and private bathroom for workawayers as well as a separate kitchen, where you can cook using fresh, seasonal vegetables from our organic garden and local produce that we supply for you.
In the house, we speak Flemish but Maxime and I are both fluent in English. I am also fluent in Portuguese,German, French and Spanish as I studied and taught languages pre-farm life and Maxime was a chemical engineer.Types of help and learning opportunities

We are only 3km from the small city of Damme and 9 km of the beautiful and historical city of Bruges. We have some fields on which we grow grains which can be an enriching experience for you to discover. There's a lot to see in the neighbourhood and we offer bikes so you can move around to see some more of the surroundings. We can definitely help you to speak English, Dutch or other languages.

This project could involve children. For more information see our guidelines and tips here.
Help
We ask workawayers to help 5 days a week for 5 hours with things such as feeding the animals their breakfast and dinner, helping with laundry, growing vegetables in the greenhouse (80+ varieties throughout the year), and occasionally helping us run events on the farms (parties, weddings, or dinners).
The work is quite independent as we are busy managing the farm, so it is a quiet and relaxed work environment. We are also happy to organise any projects that best suit or interest you and your skills in the time you aren't looking after the animals.
In summer, things get a bit more lively when we open our giant corn maze and host glamping guests in the fields. We also grow our own flowers out in the fields, and harvest a lot of fruit from our fruit trees in this time. It’s a lot of fun, there is always something to learn and new people to meet with such diverse experiences.
We are also keen to learn from you, so if you have skills in gardening, landscaping, carpentry, preserving or cooking - let us know! We love trying new things and exploring new opportunities.Languages spoken

Guests get their own private bedroom and private bathroom that is upstairs from our main house. The private room can sleep 2 to 3 people across two different levels, so it is still quite private if you end up sharing with others or coming with a partner or friend. We have linen and towels available.
Workawayers also have their own private, fully equiped kitchen (4 stove cooktop, oven, fridge) that is quite large. We can offer you many fresh and delicious ingredients so you can cook for yourself, often from our own garden. There is fresh eggs from our chickens every day, sometimes meat from our farm (such as chicken and pork), fruits from the trees, vegetables, cheese, local yogurt, salad, etc.
With having young children, we won't often eat together and will let you look after yourself with the ingredients and kitchen at your disposal.
Workawayers also have access to a washing machine and dryer whenever they need. What else ...
There are several bikes available for you to use to get to Bruges for sightseeing, shopping, chocolate, and waffles... From the train station, you are able to take a variety of day trips across Belgium to see other beautiful and historical cities.
The bike ride into Damme is beautiful - completely flat and mostly along the canal.
The bike ride to the coast is also beautiful if you want to visit the sea.
In your spare time in the afternoon or on your days off, you can also relax on the farm and go for long walks along the canal.A little more information
