  • Description

PIRENÓPOLIS: I need two people to help with construction, plumbing, painting, building a fence in a high place where they will both live. They would also need to finish connecting the plumbery in the top bathroom to the bottom of the house. I expect people to spend around five hours a day, three days a week, in the volunteer work, which means they have four days left each week to visit places out of town. For two weeks, I can offer housing, internet, water and energy. The house is in the nice city of Pirenópolis, a colonial town surrounded by two hundred waterfalls and other tourist attractions, only 150 km from Brasilia, at the foot of Pireneus Mountains and bathed by Almas River. Handcraft is abundant. We are also very well located in the city, within a ten minute walk from the historical center in a quiet neighborhood. We need two people and they must work together. Only for two weeks, which can be extended to a third week, to finish further tasks. Starting any time.

Pirenópolis is an extremely interesting place from the point of view of traditional cultures and I am an anthropologist who has taught at the local state university in the past. I also work as a translator and writer. I speak English, Spanish and Portuguese. The region in which Pirenópolis is located is also quite interesting. It is the Central High Flat Lands in Brazil, with several mountains, full of water resources and nature reserves, from which you next reach the gateway to the North region of the country, with its several transitions towards the jungle. Pirenópolis is a colonial city lying on the skirt of Serra dos Pireneus, the high mountains from which you oversee the entire region, in 360 degrees, before cutting 18km on the way back to Brasilia, through a national park where cerrado and the sources of waters that flow throughtout all regions in the country are preserved, among local families and people looking for alternative ways of life.

We particularly need people who have experience with bathrooms. The bathroom is there, but it needs to be connected to the plumbery. Also the wires for electricity need to be connected and a fence must be built to protect people from falling off the balcony and from the glass windows. The rest of the work can be negotiated after two weeks, when this is completed. It is not to be done by a person alone. It needs to be done by two people.

  • Accommodation

A room, a bathroom and a balcony, within a larger house, when the main work is done. While it is not, for at the first four or five days, the two people will have to be in the first floor of the house in another bedroom, sharing the bathroom. The work to be done is in that room - where the two people are expected to move once they think it is ready for that. But the two guests-volunteers can use the rest of the house.

From the main bus station in Brasilia, you can take the bus from Goianésia company and reach the city in two and a half hour. It is a nice trip. The bus fares are not expensive. In Pirenópolis, volunteers can walk to the place from the bus station in fifteen minutes, crossing the bridge. Any of the bridges lead to the house, but the newest one - just behind the bus station, is the shortest path. Here, you can call us and we can wait for you at the bus station, if you need extra help. Just have to let us know what bus you are coming with, once you buy the ticket in Brasilia.
