    Description

    Hey Workawayers!

I'm Nicolai, and I recently bought and renovated a hostel in El Tunco.

I moved here because I fell in love with El Salvador. The surf is incredible, the people are some of the friendliest I've met, and there's always something going on. My favorite part, though, is how easy it is to meet people from all over the world while still feeling connected to the local community.

I started the project because I wanted to build the kind of hostel I'd want to stay at myself. Some nights we'll have live music, DJs, or events, and other nights everyone ends up hanging around the pool, cooking dinner together, playing games, or watching the sunset with a few beers.

I also love having volunteers because everyone brings something different. Some people teach us recipes from home, others help us practice a new language, introduce games we've never played, share photography tips, lead yoga, organize activities, or simply bring a different perspective. Every volunteer leaves their mark on the place, and that's honestly one of my favorite parts of hosting.

    Cultural exchange and learning opportunities

This is probably my favorite part of Workaway.

You'll get to know our local staff, surfers, and people around town while improving your Spanish if you want to. At the same time, our staff enjoys practicing English and learning about life in other countries.

We encourage volunteers to share whatever they're passionate about, whether that's cooking, music, photography, languages, fitness, art, or something completely different. We've had volunteers introduce new games, organize dinners, teach yoga, create social media content, and come up with ideas that we're still using today.

Outside of volunteering, we usually end up surfing together, checking out waterfalls and beaches, grabbing pupusas, going to local festivals, watching sunsets, or going out on weekends. Most volunteers arrive as strangers and leave with friends from all over the world.

  • Help

    Help

We're looking for positive, easygoing people who enjoy meeting others and being part of a community.

Depending on what you're good at, you might help with reception, social media, photography, organizing guest activities, yoga, event promotion, or just helping create a fun atmosphere around the hostel. If you have another skill you'd like to share, we're always open to new ideas.

We already have local cleaners, reception staff, maintenance, surf instructors, an accountant, and a lawyer. Volunteers aren't here to replace local jobs. You're here to add to the experience by sharing your own culture, ideas, language, and skills while learning about life in El Salvador and meeting people from all over the world.

  • Accommodation

    Accommodation

You'll usually stay in a large shared room with three to five other volunteers, each room with its own private bathroom. It ends up feeling a bit like a sleepover with your friends, and it's usually where everyone gets to know each other best. If we have extra space, we may also be able to put you in one of our dorms.
