Unfortunately, I have cancer and I am having treatment and I no longer have the same energy levels because of that treatment and various past treatments so I need your help.Types of help and learning opportunities

As I have organised an easy schedule you will have plenty of time to immerse your self in the French culture even on help days.
You will have the opportunity to visit Cannes and the surrounding areas by reasonably priced public transport. Cannes town centre and beaches are walking distance. Italy is just a 100 minute train ride away.Help
HOURS AND TIMES
25 hours each person divided over 5 days ( usually 5 hours per day for 5 days) then 2 days off
WE WILL CONSIDER 2 PEOPLE (couple/ friends) BUT REALISTICALLY 1 IS SUFFICIENT
YOU MUST BE an agreeable, flexible, honest, easy-going person who is willing to help.
To make your stay as enjoyable and beneficial as possible.
POSSIBILITY OF MORE FREE DAYS . It is preferable so that I can plan easier that you do 5 hours per day for 5 days then 2 days off, but If you want and it is possible IF AGREED BEFOREHAND your hours may be done at the beginning of your stay leaving you totally free to enjoy the rest of your stay or giving you extra Free days or some shorter help days so that you can discover other areas close by or whatever you may want to do. This may not always be possible e.g. paint needs time to dry between coats. The weather is bad and the help is outside exposed to the elements and there is a limited amount of help you can do under the pergola. Legal noise restrictive hours.
PRESENTLY we hope to have visiting family members and friends ( obviously following government guidelines and they will all be fully vaccinated. It is likely that most of them will only speak English, ( so it is fun for us all it will be important that you are FLUENT IN ENGLISH.
YOU MUST BE IN GOOD HEALTH, any health problems please declare them before so that we can evaluate if you can enjoy yourself here and be productive.
It is important that you are happy and contented so we need to know if it is possible to accommodate any requirements or expectations that you have, Before committing it is best that we can assure you that we can revolve around any work or study commitments you may have, hence the following questions.
IF YOU HAVE ANY COMMITMENTS OR REQUIREMENTS PLEASE GIVE DETAILS WHEN ENQUIRING this includes work and digital commitments or learning or teaching commitments. Do you intend to look for work or work whilst you are here and if so what would your hours be? Please give as many details as are necessary so that I can assess if I can help and plan your help hours around your schedules.
I AM DOING IMPROVEMENTS, MAINTENANCE AND RENOVATIONS MAINLY ON MY APARTMENT WHICH IS OVER 120 YEARS OLD SO IT IS A WORK IN PROGRESS.
Unfortunately, I have cancer and I am having treatment and I no longer have the same energy levels because of that treatment and various past treatments so I need your help.
Note most of the help is in the apartment where you will be staying, in the building, and on the roof terrace that is where a lot will take place (the top apartment PENTHOUSE ) and there are 44 steps to reach the apartment. The apartment is on the entire 2nd floor and the rooftop terrace is on the floor above. There is no elevator.
Some help may be required a little further away less than 5km if this is the case then your travel time will be deducted. If there are any travel expenses then these will be paid by us.
1 possible place is less than 10 minutes walk away, another a storage unit is 15 minutes walk away and another which is less than 4km away ( either we will take you there or pay for transport) It will give you FREE access to: a pool with a sea view, 2 boules courts 1with a sea view, 2 tennis courts and ping pong table in a different town Cannes La Bocca. The centre is 15 minutes walk from here and LES PLAGES DE MIDI ( MIDDLE BEACHES ) are less than 20 minutes walk it is less than 4km away and either we take you or we pay for transport. The time is deducted for traveling if you are going there to help, if it is only for enjoyment then you may need to be accompanied by myself or my best friend who lives with me at least the first few times and if it is only for enjoyment obviously no travel time is deducted nor any travel expenses.
The setup is a sort of flatmate set up WE ALL SHARE OBVIOUS FLATMATE TASKS EQUALLY TO MAKE SURE THAT WE LIVE IN DECENT SURROUNDINGS. Any input is welcome, This will be your home so you need to feel happy and contented.
HELP WANTED Please note we are very safety conscious.
I can provide printed or written instructions in English of help to do which will also be weather categorised. Most of the help needed will be up on the terrace exposed to the elements, for this reason we have now set up under the pergola a painting and construction station so that even on rainy days there can be progress. This also means that on rainy days ( yes it does rain here 300 sunny days a year) , that IF POSSIBLE AND PREVIOUSLY AGREED then IF YOU CHOOSE you can do extra help hours that will be deducted from future help hours or if on your free day it is raining IF POSSIBLE YOU CAN CHOOSE to do help that day and have a future sunny day free. Usually on sunny and good weather days we prioritise help exposed to the elements when possible so that we can offer this advantage.
MOST OF THE HELP NEEDED IS DIY HANDY STUFF BUT THERE ARE ALSO SOME HELP HOURS TO BE USED DOING THESE OTHER THINGS.
GENERAL HELP AROUND MY PLACE,
CLEANING AND ORGANISING around my home, on the terrace and the little room and tool shed on the terrace
1)CLEANING ( when possible we try to organise it for rainy days )
Regarding the COMMUNAL AREAS usually done between all occupants, obviously including ourselves once a week and takes on average 1 hour. If we all do this cleaning of the communal areas is not deductible from your help hours as you would normally clean your place even when working, however as I may have low energy levels it would be lovely if you would do ALL this cleaning once a week and ALL your time spent doing it would be deducted from your help hours.
2) ORGANISING
TERRACE
a)Tidying up the recently renovated terrace and organising it better.
b)The wooden cabinet and room on the terrace. This is where all the tools and equipment are kept for all the DIY handy person projects. Although it has been organised, there are more things to add to it. So that you can familiarise yourself with where everything is you could do simple plans and even re- organise it better. This must be pre-agreed and obviously, the time spent is deducted from your help hours as is everything under the help wanted unless otherwise mentioned. ( THIS WAY AS FOR PAST HELPERS IT WOULD ALSO BE LIKE YOUR WORK SPACE AND PLACE.
D) BEHIND THE BAR /COUNTER TOP CUPBOARDS ON THE TERRACE
There under another pergola like structure we have stocked sun beds, some tiles . This could be better organised with help.
KITCHEN ( preferable rainy days)
A)You may prefer to re-organise my kitchen ( lots of great gadgets).
b) You may prefer to re-organise some of the cupboards in the communal areas and bathrooms.
BEDROOM + MEZZANINE ( preferable rainy days)
a) Help me organise it.
STUDIO with many free activities
Less than 4km away . travel expenses paid or we take you there. Travel time deducted.
Cleaning and organising.
STORAGE SPACE CLOSER TO BEACHES
15 minutes walk travel time deducted.
Organise better and clean.
3) COOKING AND FOOD PREPARATION
We like to eat at least 3 evening meals ( dinners) a week together so we can have an agreeable moment and get to know you better.
When you are out exploring then it may be possible to offer easy food options that require little effort for preparation, this way you have no time restrictions and food does not get wasted.
It would be really lovely if someone wanted to do some cooking and food preparation some of the time. Obviously, if it is just you doing some meals then the MAJORITY of that time (possibly all that time) would be deducted from your help hours. You need to eat too. You can also ask us to help e.g peel some vegetables, mash the potatoes, etc.
Note stating the obvious attendance time waiting for a dish to cook e.g in the oven, timed air fryer, slow cooker etc. is not deducted from help hours. E.G. You make a shepherds pie or some other meal which goes in the oven etc. and requires no attendance except for being taken out when cooked then obviously the time it took you to make it and any cleaning up after food preparation will be deducted but the time it sits in the oven as there is nothing to do but wait is not included. As stated obviously if you are cleaning up during it being in the oven then the time it takes to clean up is deducted. A roast dinner with a variety of mixed roasted vegetables is different as you will need to keep basting the roast and putting the vegetables in at intervals etc and then turning them.
IF IT IS A COMMUNAL EFFORT -MEANING THAT MEALS ARE DONE BETWEEN US EQUALLY THEN NO TIME WILL BE DEDUCTED FROM YOUR HELP HOURS AS YOU WILL BENEFIT FROM EATING THE COMMUNAL EFFORT AS WELL. When you finish work you would normally prepare a meal for yourself.
COOKING and FOOD PREPARATION AND THE CLEANING UP AFTER FOOD PREPARATION
OBVIOUSLY, IF YOU ARE DOING MOST OF THE COOKING AND FOOD PREPARATION ETC THEN AT THE VERY LEAST THE MAJORITY OF THE TIME SPENT if not all the time spent IS DEDUCTED FROM YOUR HELP HOURS OR IF YOU DO PROPORTIONALLY MORE THAN YOUR FAIR SHARE THEN THAT DIFFERENCE IS DEDUCTED FROM YOUR HELP HOURS.
Note you are very welcome to suggest various dishes from your country or any preferences that you may have etc
There are many useful appliances, slow cooker, multicooker, air fryer, raclette, fondue, rotisserie grill, panini machine pancake maker, automated soup maker, plancha, barbecue, electric steamer, toasted sandwich maker etc
As this is a convivial and friendly place we like to eat all together at least 3/ 4 times a week, understandably when you are out exploring you may not know what time you will return and we want you to enjoy your stay here.
4)SHOPPING food shopping is mainly done by my best friend with my credit card once a week. You are very welcome to add to lists of what is needed missing or what you think would be good or for recipes. He goes to a supermarket 2 minutes walk from the apartment. IF YOU WANT YOU CAN JOIN HIM AT ANY MOMENT WHILST HE IS SHOPPING AS YOU MAY SEE SOMETHING GOOD. I PAY FOR ALL THE SHOPPING FOR JUST THE MEALS BREAKFAST, LUNCH and DINNER, TEAS, COFFEES, I do not serve alcohol but you are welcome to buy your own, you must be reasonable with your consummation. I do not provide sweets or snacks and we rarely eat dessert. However as my best friend only goes once a week and only buys fresh produce that will be used in the next few following days it may be necessary that you do some shopping on occassions ( which I will pay for) for additional fresh produce, or missing ingredients or fresh milk if you require that. Here it is mainly long life milk. This shopping time Is NEVER DEDUCTED FROM YOUR HELP HOURS nor IS helping with the shopping bags. You will benefit directly from this.
SHOPPING CONTINUED If you go shopping for something that involves the projects here or for something for which you will derive no benefit from e.g you go to the DIY store ( 5 minutes walk away) for supplies etc then ALL THAT TIME IS DEDUCTED FROM YOUR HELP HOURS including the travel time to go there and the time it takes you to shop for supplies, if you are going out and the place is on your way back home ( IT SHOULD NEVER AFFECT YOUR LEISURE TIME) and I ask you to pop in on your way back home then obviously just the time it took you to do the shopping, if you are going out and the place is a few minutes out of the way ( IT SHOULD NEVER AFFECT YOUR LEISURE TIME)- then the few minutes out of the way and the shopping time is deducted from your help hours.
5) DO IT YOURSELF (DIY) type stuff. Some IMPROVEMENTS and MAINTENANCE, RENOVATIONS ( This is what most of the help hours will involve)
Most need no previous skills unless mentioned and most we can teach you if necessary and you are willing. Below are just some examples. We are looking for an agreeable, flexible, honest, easy-going person who is willing to help.
a) Preparing paintwork and sanding.
b)Painting, varnishing
c) Touch up painting.
d) Cleaning the newly tiled terrace tiles and grout and sealing tile grout/joints - sealing the stuff in-between the tiles( basically painting on with a fine brush the sealant ( a liquid) on the tile joints/grout. I have special knee pads for this so it will be more comfortable for you.
e) Completing the building, painting and lining of some garden boxes. ( most of the building is done with just a few left to do 2 which are odd shaped ones as they line the perimeter) They came in kits so are easy and if necessary we can teach you how to do this depending on where we are on this project. It is mainly painting the insides, lining the inside, light hand sanding and painting/ varnishing the outside that is left to do.
I have just bought a planter box on wheels where we could grow fresh herbs it is waist high so no need to bend to get to plants. Lightly sanding this, cleaning it and painting it with the same products used for the garden boxes. Lining it. I have independant apparatuses to grow wheat grass ( fast results) broccoli sprouts etc
f) Cleaning kitchen tiles and joints and using special sealant to protect the joints. Basically painting on thin coats of sealant on the joints ( grout between the tiles) to protect them.
g) Cleaning kitchen tiles and joints and using special sealant to protect the joints.
h) There are some marks on a bedroom ceiling after a guest used a vapeur machine with essential oils. Cleaning the marks off and preparing the paint work. Painting.
I) Hanging a few kitchen cabinets in the terrace kitchen or just help with their hanging depending on your experience and what you feel confident doing. ( Possibility of learning new skills)
J) Replacing a kitchen work surface or just helping depending on your experience and what you feel confident doing.
K) Replacing cupboard doors or just helping depending on your experience and what you feel confident doing. ( on the cupboards behind the bar on the terrace). ( Possibility of learning new skills).
L) Putting locks on cupboards.
M) Creating shade and possibly more cover on the roof terrace so we can all enjoy it throughout the day and it will be more enjoyable to do your help hours there when possible. Much easier than it sounds. Possibility of learning new skills.
N) Creating optional shade 1) Under the main pergola 2) under the terrace kitchen roof 3) Under the bar pergola. We will be doing at least some of this with you , if not all of it. You can assist or do what you feel confident doing. Possibility of learning new skills.
O) Putting up blinds or just helping depending on your experience and what you feel confident doing.
p) Putting up mosquito screens or just helping depending on your experience and what you feel confident doing.
Q) Putting shelves in cupboards or just helping depending on your experience and what you feel confident doing.
R) Putting up new terrace wall lights or just helping depending on your experience and what you feel confident doing.
S) Installing solar generated lights and other solar generated things. This is much easier than it sounds.
E.G When the garden boxes are completed and there are the bushes or bamboo in them then independent solar torches can be just stuck in the soil, Around the pergolas small twinkling lights can be attached which come on at dusk. Or just helping do this with us.
T) Adding extension cords to areas that can profit from them. Basically sticking them on the prepared surface with the adhesive strip. Or just helping do this with us.
U) Adding smart plugs and lights in different areas.Or just helping do this with us.
Q) various other maintenance and improvement help.
NOTE Stating the obvious COMMUNAL ( SHARED EQUALLY between occupants which include ourselves ) CHORES THE TIME SPENT IS NEVER DEDUCTED FROM YOUR HELP HOURS UNLESS PREVIOUSLY AGREED OR YOU DO MORE THAN YOUR FAIR SHARE Examples COMMUNAL PREPARATION AND COOKING OF FOOD, CLEARING UP AFTER FOOD PREPARATION AND EATING, OCCASIONAL SHOPPING FOR FOOD AND DRINK AND NECESSARY DOMESTIC PRODUCTS THAT WILL ALSO BE CONSUMED OR USED BY YOU (a main shop is done once a week by my friend with my credit card at a supermarket 2 minutes walk away- some additional fresh produce may be needed or missing ingredients for a recipe or you may want particular ingredients or produce or food stuffs that are not available there HELPING WITH THE COMMUNAL SHOPPING THE SHOPPING BAGS AND STORING IT AND COMMUNAL CLEANING OF THE COMMUNAL AREAS IN THE APARTMENT ARE NEVER DEDUCTED FROM YOUR HELP HOURS. I have what is normally a good internet connection. Depending upon your work and study commitments ( Please state when enquiring) , Please be realistic regarding the number of hours you will need to do per week. if you need total silence for periods of time in the communal areas or need to teach on line when others are sleeping and you want to do it in your bedroom this may be too restrictive for us.
Space for parking camper vans
There are at least two options, You could choose to stay with us in the apartment and there is free parking on my road and some roads nearby but because of its location not always obvious or there is usually abundant parking on the road ( cul de sac) a road that has no exit so only residents or their visitors would be going there, where I also have a studio, You could park opposite or in front of my studio that looks out onto the road where you campervan, motor home would be parked. You could also possibly have access to my studio where there is all free ( well I pay the body corporate charges), a pool with a sea view , 2 tennis courts. 2 boules courts 1 with a sea view and ping pong as my studio, that you may like to arrange and use. It has Internet , a washing: machine dryer, hob, microwave, oven, dishwasher etc it is situated in a very high-quality residence. The studio is in a secured residence and a 15 minute walk to the beaches and town centre of Cannes la Bocca which is an extension of Cannes. Most of the help needed is 12 minutes away by car 3.8 km. There are also buses unsure of frequency.
