    Description

The 3 of us, Iain, Janka, and our old dog - Szilva - live in a beautiful big house at the end of the road on top of a hill with amazing views.

Both of us have plenty of experience travelling as workaways, but now we want to invite you to our place and share a bit of our life with us.

What is going on right now?
We have planted some gardens that need to be watered.
Making some rock and log landscape art around the gardens.
Pallet construction - Outdoor kitchen, compost toilet and outdoor shower, work bench in the workshop.
    Decorating and furnishing guest rooms.
    Hanging out with szilva.
    Picking wild herbs.
    Cutting grass for mulch.

If you know anything about caring for old cars, we have a classic that you could help us with.

We are very used to sharing our space with others. We've both lived a lot on communities and eco villages.

This property has a bunch of dog kennels in the yard, it used to be a dog day care and we aren't sure what it will be for us. We both have a history of working with sled dogs, so perhaps this place will become that. At least for now the idea is to have chickens in the dog shed. But let's see.

Szilva is Jankas old family dog and we decided to take care of her for the rest of her life. She's very sweet, but also extremely sensitive. She's our little shaman. She's harmless, but she's loud.
She doesn't need to be walked, she is free to roam around the hill. But she loves to go for an adventure and part of the deal of living with us is to share time with her, especially if we are out working. She is a Pumi - Hungarian sheep herding dog. In her eyes we are her sheep, and if you come to live with us then she will assume you are too.

We always find something to do. Right now the place is a blank canvass for us to create, come and make something nice with us. Here is a warm, cosy and clean place to come and be for a while.

    Welcome.

There is a bus stop outside of our driveway, and a train that comes twice a day to Nurmes where we can get you. Although we can also arrange a pick up in Kuopio, Kajani, or Joensuu if we have another reason to be in those places. Sometimes we are driving to other parts of Finland too.

We are doing DIY and building. Starting a garden from the beginning. Wild herb foraging and making tinctures, fermenting, sourdough baking, Worm composting.

We listen to a lot of music and love to dance, do movement arts and exercises, massage and herbal treatments.

    Accommodation

We have our own bedroom downstairs, there is a cosy attic space above the stove for guests. There's not much privacy but it's warm and comfortable. You can also bring a tent and campervans are welcome. There are a couple of nice finished guest rooms in the barn that we would like to use, but currently they are empty. Perhaps you could help us furnish and decorate them.

We both love to cook and eat good food. Often we cook for our livelihood at events but also at home we eat really well. We hope you like to be part of the cooking, or at least part of the cleaning up. We can teach you some nice recipes and are happy to learn some from you.

We always have some food on the stove. We eat a bit of everything but we try not to eat factory meat from the store. If you have some special requirements for diet it is very possible to come here. We know how to cater to all kinds of special needs, but don't always want to do it at home, so as long as you can prepare some meals that meet your needs then we surely will have the ingredients and can make it work.

  • What else ...

    What else ...

We live in a very beautiful part of the country, and we are just discovering it ourselves. You are welcome to explore it with us, find the best lakes for swimming , fresh water springs for drinking, and generally just enjoy being in the nature.
We are quite social people so you can be invited along to our outings and share time with the people who come to visit us.

There are horse farms around that we are connected to, so if you like horses there could be some opportunities for that.

It's rural and small town life here, so expect peace, wildlife, nature and good food. And music...
