I had Clément & Axel staying with me for about 9 weeks this summer. It was not enough :)
They came as volunteers but left as family members and my home will always be open for them. Clément & Axel started their first day with a big smile and eager to work. And it never stopped. They always showed up on time, they never said no and just kept on
… read more going. With a smile off course! If they didn't know how to do something they listened to instructions or even found solutions themselves. We learned so much from them, just as I think they learned a lot from being here.
Their main assignment was to help out with gardening. Cutting the lawn, planting and watering flowers. They did some painting and other maintenance. They also got to use tools like hammer & nails, drilling, saw and strimmer.
During their spare time they had free access to my car, bikes and canoes.
Clément & Axel joined the family and found friends here. The explored Swedish Lapland on a deeper level than a tourist ever can. We had so many good and fun conversations and spoke a lot about each other’s cultures. I would recommend them to any host or employer! In Axel & Clément you will find the best. I really hope to see them back “home” again!

Heaven is in sweden?
Clem and I spent 9 weeks at katarina and her family’s hotel from late May until early August. During our preparation Katarina was able to answer all our questions in a clear, fast and with her good mood as always. We were living in a room outside the hotel very clean, with good quality wifi. A normal day was organized in this
… read more way: 9:30 lunch, 10 o'clock we started to work in the garden (stemmer, tractor mower, planting flowers, watering flowers etc...) until noon meal (which was always excellent, many thanks to Britta the cook). After eating we worked until 4 pm. During the weekends we had access to bike/ mountain bike/ car for walking or sightseeing. In addition, Katarina was able to be very flexible on our days off and our working hours which also made our stay even more enjoyable. For the food we had access to the kitchen in the morning and at noon and in the evening we either had to eat at the hotel restaurant, or we had access to the kitchen to make our meals. It is necessary to talk a little bit about the surroundings to make short: it’s beautiful, nature is very preserved and we were lucky to have sun all summer which was perfect for our hiking around the hotel.
To conclude clem and I had a great stay at katarina, we were able to discover the sweden and its culture and spent 7 weeks great. Again a big thank you to Katarina, Dan, Britta, Evelina and Emmy for welcoming them. If you are looking to work in a small family hotel, go ahead you will not find better!

I have been with this family from the last of May until the middle of September. The family has a big manor. The name of this is Melderstein manor. Melderstein was formed from the names of two principal owners Melder(creutz) and Stein(holtz). The place built on 1741 for work pig iron in iron rods. It is near Luleå, northern part of Sweden.
… read more Gällivare ores (place near Melderstein) contained phosphorus wich had to be purified. Also the transports were difficult because they had to be used reindeer, sleds, horses and wagons. Meldercreutz arrived for to solve the problems purchasing earths. He remained owner until 1785 then was followed by a series of owners. The zone was built with many buildings (house of inspection, small house of inspection, dam, ruin of sawmill and forced conduct to operate water mills to move hammers). The bars of iron were first warm up in the ovens to make them soft and then worked under the big hammers powered by water mills. the process removed waste and carbon. Iron rods were shipped from Sweden for export. The present owners have manteined the history of this place for party, wedding and conference. They have built a chapel and a pond in front of the hotel. The hotel has 13 rooms with one dining room for up to 100 people. There is one hot tube, a sauna with shared shower, a guest kitchen and two conference rooms. The garden has parking for camper and caravan. The owner, Katarina, lives in the manor with her partner and two boys. I did general manteinance of the property. I painted different areas outdoors, like the wooden deck. I cleaned the tables and seats before the guests arrived every day. I took care of the flowers in their big garden. I filled up pot holes in the road with gravel. I fixed some woods for to walking, cleaning rooms, maintenance of the garden, tidy of the chapel and the dining room after the events, throw away the waste and bring them to the recycling. I learned to use the lawn mower and the stremmer with sharp blades. I learned to make beds in Swedish system. I always had breakfast with the family and also lunch and dinner. When the owners weren't I cooked myself in the guest kitchen. When the restaurant is open (july) you can savour national and international plates. For breakfast you can choose national or international breakfast. The owners have some bikes for guest. I used the fatbike to explore the zones around the hotel. I did kilometers and kilometers with very few cars on the roads. The owner gave me the her private car for to visit Råneå town, Luleå town and some natural and cultural interesting places likes Gammelstad, a swedish world heritage or hiking Luleå. You can go fishing in the beautiful lakes and rivers near the place called Råne river but be aware of the mosquitoes from the middle of june until the end of july. You can find ferry boats in Luleå town to visit Luleå archipelago with its islands. I could visit Småskär island very wild but very pretty with the fishermans town. You can admire the midnight sun phenomenon in the last part of june otherwise when the long part of the winter season start, more or less the end of september, you can see northern lights phenomenon. I participated at midsummer Swedish national fest with traditional clothes and custom. Is very common to do second hand private markets wich the name of this is "Loppis". I hope to return for one holiday of for another experience because I stayed very well.

In Enrico you will find a person that is eager to learn and he always try to improve his skills from time to another. During these months he never said no. He willingly did everything I asked him, no matter if it was a quite boring assingment. He showed up on time and it was hard to make him stop working in the afternoon.
Enrico is a very social person and loves to learn new things about basically everything.
I would be happy to host him again!Feedback
