  • Description

    Description

We are a retired but active couple living in an eighteenth-century country house in central Ireland. We are keen to host workawayers, preferably a couple, to help us with restoring woodland gardens, a rock garden and growing fruit and vegetables. We also have about 18 hectares of woodland, peat bog and pasture to be managed for biodiversity.

    Cultural exchange and learning opportunities

We are keen to share our passions for nature, plants, birds, gardening, and our interests in archaeological heritage, landscapes and biodiversity, drawing on Emma's professional background in leading the National Trust of Wales and Henry's experience as professor of botany, geography and earth sciences at Trinity College Dublin and at Aberystwyth University, Wales. We would like to take our Workawayers on trips to heritage and nature sites in central Ireland and to the west coast. We will also share skills in gardening and horticulture while working alongside our Workaway guests. We will enjoy learning more about the cultures of other countries, and would welcome opportunities for conversational practice in French, Spanish or Italian.

  • Help

    Help

We will appreciate help with tasks such as clearing scrub, weeding, planting trees, moving rocks, weeding, mowing and scything the orchard, and removing ivy from old walls. Idealy, we would like to host Workawayers who are strong, energetic, hardworking, creative and experienced with work in the outdoors, especially with garden and woodland tasks. It would also be good if you have experience in building work so that you could advise and help restore our old farm buildings. Most important is that you should appreciate nature and enjoy work outdoors!
