The volunteers will learn how to work in a team in a rural Portuguese environment, with both international and local colleagues. We are situated 2 km from the village of Barão de São João, which is mix of local traditional Portuguese along with international people who have settled in the area looking for an alternative lifestyle. There are some cafés, restaurants and grocery shops.
Lagos is only 9 km away, with its beautiful beaches and historical buildings.
This project could involve children. For more information see our guidelines and tips here.
This host offers accommodation and payment.
Host has indicated that they will pay at least the minimum hourly wage of their country for each hour worked and that accommodation will also be provided. They are asking for help with a business or business activity. Contact the host directly via the site messenger for more information and details about the wage provided. Any arrangements should be agreed in advance with your host.
We welcome flexible, handy and open minded helpers. We are looking for help in the kitchen (preparing and serving food, setting the table, doing the dishes etc.), while we serve breakfast and dinners for our guests. We also needs help with the cleaning of the rooms and cottages, the kitchen and the communal areas. And of course there's always a lot of washing and ironing to be done.
We also need someone to look after our organic vegetable garden which needs loving care. The person taking care of the garden will also be responsible for the upkeep of the flora and plants on the terrain - from pruning and caring for our fruit trees to general irrigation duties. There are all sorts of (maintenance) jobs to be done, like repainting chairs, but also cleaning the pool or taking care of our chickens. including cleaning their coop.
Volunteers will get accommodation in a private wooden cabin (see photos) or caravan. There is a common kitchen that can be used for your own cookery. You can respectfully use all facilities, such as the communal areas and swimmingpool, We only accept stays of a minimum period of 3 months.
Before we accept a volunteer we usually do a personal video interview by whatsapp. You will receive a copy of our common ground to be read, so we all know what to expect from one another.
A respectful attitude and clean and proper outlook are important to be able to work in our guesthouse.
There are many hiking trails in the area and along the coast that can be explored. In their time off volunteers can use a bike to discover the area or go to Lagos and to the beach. Sometimes they can join activities (such as yoga lessons) in our beautiful Round House. Payment for that is dependent of the teacher. A bike is available to discover the surroundings or to go to the village.
