    Description

Ciao, I'm Luca! For the first time, I'm not the one doing the 'Workawayer, which I suppose means I've entered a new phase of life!

I've been very lucky to travel extensively in many different countries, meeting some truly extraordinary people and experiencing amazing cultures. I still want to keep traveling whenever I get the chance, but now with the idea of knowing there's a welcoming place in nature waiting for me when I return.

I recently got a piece of land with a tiny rustic house in the Sicilian countryside, and I would love to turn it into a place shaped by the people who spend time and care here. A place where I hope meaningful connections and knowledge can be shared.

I'm an architect, well, not a traditional one, and I've spent several years working with bamboo wood, mud, and natural building techniques. I love this way of doing things, and if you're interested, I'd be happy to share with you a thing or two about it!

The location itself is stunning and very unique (from my point of view). It's on a mountainside with terraced slopes that look like ancient roman archaeological ruins! For now, it's just me here, but friends often come to visit. My long-term idea is to share this space with others. I don't have a clear plan, but maybe I don't want one. A big hug, Luca

    Cultural exchange and learning opportunities

I get that 'social battery' can run low in these settings, so know that we can talk about it freely, no pressure. My hope is for you to have an good experience of this place, which I'm also still discovering myself since I'm not from around here. I often need to go to Catania for work, which could be a perfect time for you to discover something new.

As I said before, I'm more than happy to share my skills. To be specific, I work with wood I have a small workshop in Catania! I also love working with mud, a material I've already used for a few projects. When it comes to permaculture and plants, I've covered the theory and am now getting my hands dirty with the practice. If you have skills in these areas, that would be amazing, but it's absolutely not a requirement!

Life here is very local, and I would genuinely love to see our cultures yours, mine, and the local one blend together and create some shared moments. I don't have any expectations for who I am hosting, I'll simply be happy to welcome whatever comes.

    Help

There's plenty to do, and the tasks change with the seasons! For example, things like taking care of the olive grove, mulching and clearing the soil, and doing some wood and mud work. I have experience in the field of bio construction, and I would love to share it with you. That said, I'm completely open to your own ideas and initiatives!

I will always provide food for the workawayers, and when it is possible, I hope we can share meals together in total spontaneous and free way. In addition, the workawayers can have their own bicycle.

I would really like to practice my Spanish so I don't lose it, and I'd also be happy to learn some Portuguese if I get the opportunity!

  • Accommodation

    Accommodation

The land is about 1.5 hectares, almost completely terraced, and on it, there are two little houses that used to be storage sheds, which I'm currently bringing back to new life. They're not in their final form yet, but they're cozy and welcoming enough. I currently live in one of them, and the idea is that the the other one will be for you... but since it's not ready yet, I can offer you a comfortable tent. It's a really beautiful and quiet spot, but I'm sure the pictures and the chat we'll have will make everything much clearer!

For transportation, we're not far from the nearest town, which is about a 5 minute drive, but it's a steep state road. Having your own vehicle would be ideal, but if not, we'll figure something out! The workawayers can have their own bicycle.

I will always provide food for the workawayers, and when it is possible, I hope we can share meals in total spontaneous and free way.

My idea is to have at least two workawayers at the same time to form a group of three, which, in my opinion, is more relaxing!

  • What else ...

    What else ...

Since I've only recently taken over the land, the general conditions require a good spirit of adaptability. As of now, there is only a source of water, electricity comes from camping solar panels and I am using a camping shower too (no hot water). However, I am in the process of upgrading these, so depending on when you come, the situation may already be more settled. I am telling you this to be upfront, but we can of course discuss it all openly without any issues.
