Description
Our location is in a secluded village within the Chamba district of Himachal Pradesh. It takes approximately six hours by road to reach us from Dharamshala. The village is also roughly a five-hour drive from Kangra's Gaggal airport and the Pathankot Railway station. Chamba serves as the closest town. Two long-route buses operate up to our village. Our family consists of three members, including my parents. This serves as our summer residence, which we run as a homestay/BnB to promote tourism in our ancestral village. Additionally, we are experimenting with new agricultural and horticultural practices. There are a few other projects in the pipeline that may come to fruition this year, keeping us occupied.

Our village, Kunra, is home to the Gaddi tribe and nomadic Gujars. It stands as one of the oldest villages in both the Chamba district and the Indian subcontinent. The Shivashakti temple here, dating back to the 7th century AD, has been recognized as a protected monument by the National Archaeological Survey of India. Students from various disciplines, including Archaeology, Anthropology, and Geology, frequently visit this area for research purposes.
According to local belief, the Pandavas from the famous epic Mahabharata resided in this village during their exile, giving it the name Kuntapuri, derived from their mother Kunti. For an unparalleled cultural exchange and an experience steeped in ancient heritage, this location offers a unique atmosphere distinct from the contemporary culture of the plains.Help
We are seeking volunteers who possess skills in wall art or the hospitality sector, particularly chefs, to join us as hosts. Additionally, individuals with experience in guest management and entertaining, as well as those willing to contribute through manual work and innovative ideas to promote responsible, sustainable tourism, are warmly welcomed.
Before the pandemic, previous Workawayers conducted dance classes for local children, aided in painting and creating graffiti at a nearby tea shop, and engaged in similar projects throughout the village, including participating in the annual village fair.
This secluded location nestled deep within the Dhauladhar range of the Himalayas makes it an ideal destination for adventure and wildlife enthusiasts. Visitors should be physically fit to fully enjoy their time here. We also expect Workawayers to adhere to post-COVID social distancing guidelines and show respect for local people, their longstanding traditions, and ways of life.Languages
