We, Natalie and Agustino, are a native Sicilian cheerful couple and run the ranch in Calatabiano, Sicily. The pair us of have diabetes that have restricted our physical help to the ranch which is why we greatly appreciate workers coming to aid us!
The riding stable has existed for 40 years and we have been taking care of animals in need with our non-profit organization for 16 years.
We now have 2 horses, 16 dogs, 4 chickens, 10 mini pigs and 6 goats, all of which were rescued from emergency situations.
In addition to our commitment to animals, we want to offer people from all over the world a place to relax and vacation. Many guests come to us in all months of the year.
Since there are only two of us handling the entire operation, we are urgently looking for help in the near future. Every day is different & sometimes it can get pretty chaotic! Of course, the processes with the animals, i.e. feeding and cleaning, are always the same and must be strictly adhered to, but something unexpected can always happen, after all, we work with living beings.
The work only relates to help with our non-profit organization.
The farm is located in Calatabiano, north of Catania with a view of the Etna and Taormina. It is only a 5-minute walk to the beautiful beach and the tourist metropolis Taomina can also be reached very quickly. We are happy to provide bicycles for our workawayers.

Wir, Natalie und Agustino, sind ein gebürtig sizilianisches lebensfrohes Paar und leiten die Ranch in Calatabiano, Sizilien.
Der Reiterhof besteht schon seit 40 Jahren und seit 16 Jahren kümmern wir uns mit unserer Non Profit Organisation um Tiere in Not.
So befinden sich bei uns nun 2 Pferde, 16 Hunde, 4 Hühner, 10 Mini Schweine und 6 Ziegen, die allesamt aus Notsituationen gerettet wurden.
Neben unserem Engagement mit den Tieren möchten wir Menschen aus aller Welt einen Erholungs- und Ferienort bieten. So kommen in den Sommermonaten viele Gäste zu uns.
Da wir den gesamten Betrieb nur zu zweit stemmen, suchen wir dringend Hilfe für die nächste Zeit. Jeder Tag gestaltet sich anders & manchmal kann es auch schonmal ganz schön chaotisch werden! Natürlich sind die Abläufe mit den Tieren, sprich -füttern und säubern stets dieselben und müssen auch unbedingt eingehalten werden, aber es kann immer mal etwas unerwartetes dazukommen, schließlich arbeiten wir mit Lebewesen zusammen.
Die Arbeit bezieht sich nur auf Hilfe mit unserer Non Profit Organisation.
Der Hof befindet sich in Calatabiano, nördlich von Catania mit Blick auf den Etna und auf Taormina. Zum wunderschönen Strand sind es von hier nur 5 Minuten zu Fuß und auch die Touristenmetropole Taomina ist sehr schnell zu erreichen. Wir stellen unseren Workawayern sehr gerne Fahrräder zur Verfügung.

On our farm you live with two real Sicilians, you often meet other locals and you have the opportunity to get to know the Sicilian culture. Especially the Sicilian cuisine!

Help
When choosing a task, it depends on where your strengths and your interests lie. The tasks are discussed and then distributed.
In general,
we need at least one person for the horses and two for the dogs. The working atmosphere with us is relaxed, you should have fun and nobody is exploited here.
Helping routine is split into two sections, the dogs at the back section of the ranch and the farming animals at the front section of the ranch(horses, goats, pigs, cats and club house dogs).
The tasks are very important to us and you are required to have a good skillset of animal rescue or keeping of these animals. Having knowledge or an understanding of animal behaviour, training or nutrition is greatly appreciated if you are looking to join.
You will be part of a team that will be responsible for the daily routine of all of these animals wellbeing and welfare, so communication and intuitive thinking is of major importance.
The main tasks on the farm consists of helping the animals in the rescue station.
On the 1.5 hectare site there are also many shrubs that need care, many bouganville. Gardening enthusiasts are very much appreciated! Other tasks that we might ask you to help with a Little bit of cleaning, answering workaway messages and, if u have a drivers license, driving to the supermarket.
From time to time we also organize small events on our farm.
It Is important to Always have, in case of Emergency at least one workawayer with a drivers license in the team.
Bei der Auswahl der Arbeit kommt es darauf an, wo deine Stärken und auch deine Interessen liegen. Die Aufgaben werden besprochen und dann verteilt. Generell ist es aber so, dass wir mindestens eine Person für die Pferde brauchen und zwei für die Hunde. Die Arbeitsatmosphäre bei uns ist entspannt, man soll Spaß bei der Arbeit haben und hier wird niemand ausgebeutet.
Die Arbeitsroutine ist in zwei Bereiche geteilt, die Hunde im hinteren Farmteil und die Tiere im vorderen Bereich (Pferde, Ziegen, Schweine, Katzen und Club house Hunde). Die Arbeit ist uns sehr wichtig, und es wär hilfreich wenn du bereits Kompetenzen im Bereich Tierrettung oder Tierpflege hast. Kenntnisse oder Verständnis von Tierverhalten, Training und Fütterung sind auch gern gesehen, wenn du uns unterstützen willst. Du wirst Teil eines Teams sein, das mit der täglichen Routine für Wohlbefinden und Fürsorge verantwortlich ist. Daher sind Kommunikation und intuitives Denken von großer
Bedeutung.
Die Hauptarbeit auf dem Hof besteht aus der Hilfe der Tiere in der Auffangstation und dem Reitbetrieb.
Auf dem 1,5 Hektar großen Gelände gibt es außerdem viele Sträucher die Pflege benötigen, viele Bouganville. Leidenschaftliche Gartenarbeiter sind gerne gesehen! Andere Aufgaben bei denen wir ab und zu deine Hilfe brauchen sind putzen, workaway Nachrichten beantworten und, sofern du einen Führerschein hast, zum Supermarket fahren.
Von Zeit zu Zeit veranstalten wir auch kleine Events auf unserem Hof.
Es ist wichtig mindestens eine Person mit Führerschein im Team zu haben.

Accommodation
There are two options for accommodation. On the one hand we offer sleeping places on the ranch in winter months. The main type of accommodation is near the ranch in Calatabiano City in a house shared with other workawayers. We provide bicycles for this purpose to reach the ranch in 20 minutes.
Es gibt zwei Moglichkeiten der Unterbringung. Zum einen bieten wir auf der Ranch Schlafplätze an. Eine andere Art der Unterbringung erfolgt in der Nähe der Ranch in Calatabiano City in einem Haus, welches mit anderen Workawayern geteilt wird. Hierfür werden Fahrräder von uns bereit gestellt, um den 20-minütigen Weg bis zur Ranch zu erreichen.
What else ...
Every working day you will receive breakfast and lunch (warm meal) from us. Since we are often many different people - with different ideas / diets / nutrition - we always discuss in advance what will be cooked the next day and suggestions are welcome.
There is a direct bus from Catania Airport to us. We would be happy to pick you up from the bus station by car.
On the other hand you can access the train straight from fontanarossa airport or Catania Centrale to Calatabiano, where you then only have a 10 minute walk to the shared house.
In your free time you can go to the beach, go jet skiing, visit beautiful and historic cities, visit traditional weekly markets, climb Etna, admire Isola Bella, cross the Alcantara gorges or whatever you fancy :)
It is advised for all workawayer to get a tetanus vaccine before coming here for their own safety, since we are working with animals after all.

Je Arbeitstag bekommst du Frühstück und Mittagessen (warme Mahlzeit) von uns. Da wir oft viele verschiedene Leute sind- mit verschiedenen Vorstellungen/Diäten/Ernährungen- besprechen wir vorab immer, was am nächsten Tag gekocht wird und Vorschläge sind gerne gesehen.
Vom Flughafen Catania fährt ein Bus direkt bis zu uns. Gerne holen wir euch von der Busstation mit dem Auto ab.
In eurer Freizeit könnt ihr an den Strand gehen, Jetski fahren, euch wunderschöne & historische Städte anschauen, traditionelle Wochenmärkte besuchen, den Etna besteigen, die Isola Bella bewundern, die Alcantara Schluchten durchqueren oder auf was auch immer ihr so Lust habt :)
Allen Workawayern wird geraten, sich vor Abfahrt eine Tetanus Impfung machen zu lassen zur eigenen Sicherheit, da wir ja mit Tieren arbeiten.
