This is an ambitious reforestation project located in the highlands of Chiapas, Mexico.
The core of the project is holistically designed permaculture farm that demonstrates an alternative of how to work the land in harmony with nature and how this type of cultivation not only proposes economical benefits but also promotes the health of the local ecosystem, to the extent that negative developments can be reversed.
The central activities of the permaculture farm are a vegetable garden, compost and natural fertilizer production, a dense and diverse orchard and productive grassland for cattle, sheep, pigs and chickens. Furthermore, this place has a reforestation and education initiative.
The ultimative goal here is to reforest the overall region, together with the local population.
This is a unique opportunity for young people that are one step before entering the professional world of education to experience nature, farm life, live in contact with indigenous life and working with free spirits.
It is also a unique opportunity to dive right into the daily life of this growing permaculture and reforestation farm.
We are looking for young people with experience in alternative education or students of a degree in this field and that are motivated to accompany a little group of kids (2-6 years old) here on the farm. The group of children will be composed of the kids of the family and probably 2-3 kids from the local community.
The idea is that this person accompanies this little group 5 days per week for 4 hours, in activities around the farm (games, discovery of natural world, building with natural materials, world of planting plants, etc.) as well as basic pre- and primary school matters (reading, writing and math).
We also ask for a minimum duration of 4 months.
We offer our volunteers a beautiful cob cabin. It finds itself between the treehouse and the vegetable garden. It provides a cosy, small but very functional living space and spectacular views onto the sun set. The toilet and bathroom are shared and our volunteers enjoy our delicious cuisine on shared meals.
This permaculture farm finds itself 1 hour outside of San Cristobal de las Casas and 30 min away from the next bigger village. The property finds itself in a beautiful mountainous landscape.
The farm is quite isolated. Here you can discover the farm, enjoy the natural surrounding and enjoy small hikes on the property. San Cristobal de las Casas offers an interesting weekend destination with an extensive international community, bars, restaurants and a lot of cultural activities.
