Our accommodation and cafe are located on the Indian Reservation in Osoyoos, British Columbia. This area is a popular tourist destination as Canada's only desert. The environment is breathtaking and you will have an opportunity to participate in various initiatives we promote to protect the free roaming lifestyle of the wild horses. Our team consists of elders from the reservation as well as a two non-indigenous partners. Our team works together to sometimes produce short films, host training events surrounding the horses and we have recently capitalized on new laws in British Columbia that allow ranchers to sell products at farmgate. Our goal is to have the cattle that ranges on the reserved accessible to the community to help ensure food security. We host an annual wild horse auction event and participate in other events in the community.

running our drive-thru cafe set up, prepping food and drink items, coming up with menu items from the garden and the range. Gardening and supporting the indigenous rancher in activities (horsemanship skills dependent). We are looking for five workers in 2025. We are in the community so ideal candidates should enjoy people and have a compassionate view of the challenges that face Canada's First Nations. If you have a background with livestock and horses than more paid work opportunities exist but these depend on assessing skills and best fit on the team. potential here includes horse guiding trips as well as managing cattle and working with the wild horses. Again these jobs depend on skills and would be additional to the role at the cafe but also not necessary. The Cafe positions would be 20 HRS /week guaranteed and payment would start at minimum wage. We are looking for a leadership role as well that can help manage schedule, inventory, menu and shopping duties (pay would be up to $25/HR). Any roles with the horses and cattle would be paid but are not guaranteed.

  • Accommodation

    Accommodation

Accommodations are in our log home or in 5th wheel trailer with full hookup parked adjacent to the log home. The accommodation is rustic with one shared bathroom in the house at the moment but there are 3 rooms in the home in addition to the RV.
The home has a washer/dryer - a full music set up (drums/piano/guitars) and a kitchen/BBQ and pretty decent satellite internet. The yard has over 15 fruit trees and a large garden area in need of help.

    What else ...

The Okanagan is full of places to see and visit. We are right within the wine capital of Canada and have numerous lakes and beaches within a day trip. Sometimes we also stay at the log home - we have a private room kept for our family (2 little boys husband/wife) when we are in town. We both work full time and this is our passion project - but we do try to come every other week in the spring/summer. We like to have big dinners, sing karaoke and go for horse rides when we are home. We do have a truck included with the job for work tasks and depending on scheduling etc. it could be available for personal trips to town or nearby places.

We have one full hookup that we usually park our own RV in but we have other spots for our trailer if somebody would like to have their own. We also have a lot of space for campers/vans etc to park without hook ups.

We have a cat at the house who absolutely hates other cats but seems to be coming around to dogs. We do not want a lot of dogs at the home, but if you travel with a well trained buddy they are more than welcome to come too.
