Details
 - Description- We are Steven and Didier, we live on a square farm with our 5 year old son. We are open-minded LGBTQ+/gay farmers with a green heart. The three of us run a small-scale agro-ecological organic farm where the restoration of agriculture and nature, respect for the animals and sales on the farm are of paramount importance. Our field is a habitat for free range pigs, geese, ducks, laying hens, bees, fruit trees and cut flowers. Throughout the year we slaughter a few pigs every 3 weeks that are sold directly at the farm. During the summer months we run a Glamping-site where tourists enjoy the purity of the farm. Visitors come to the field to pick flowers and have a drink at our Summer Bar.
A lot of farm work and taking care of our son causes not enough time for little and big projects in and around the house. We start with the ecological renovation of the farmhouse, we have a big vegetable garden, lots of fruits,...
We are a farm business, but for WorkAway, we are looking for people to help us with the house, the family and the garden and not the farm work or other business activity.
If you want to help us, we will welcome you!

 - UN sustainability goals this host is trying to achieve
 - Cultural exchange and learning opportunities- As a farm we sell all our products at the farm. That means we have lots of visits of people that became more than just clients.
In the villages there are lots of local communities and places to meet new people. Bigger cities like Ghent and Brussels are not that far away.
We are very respectful and openminded people that try to connect interests and happiness!
 - Help- Depending on the weather and season, the daily activities vary.
This winter we start with the renovation of the farm house. We try to do that as ecological as possible, with lots of creativity and with our own hands.
In the spring, vegetables are pre-sown and grown in a tunnel greenhouse. Later they are planted out and cared for outdoors.
During the summer months, the garden is in full production. We process and preserve many of the fruit and vegetables so that everything can be stored for a long time.
When our son is not at school he joins us at the farm. He is very social and very active and loves to play, being entertained, learning new things (weather that's something technically or a language)

 - Accommodation- You can stay in our caravan, which is completely private. Cosy, retro and comfortable! In wintertime we provide a room in our house.
We always cook with home-made products and therefore eat from the field: seasonal vegetables, meat, eggs, fruit, potatoes,... and we bake our own bread. All organic but above all tasty products provide a tasty meal three times a day. You can fully explore your cooking skills!
 - What else ...- We live in the countryside. In the village itself there is not much to do other than admire the beauty of the slopes. There is an openness and we live in a very green environment. Nearby in the next village there is a beautiful nature reserve, the city of Ghent is half an hour by train, Oudenaarde is closer, Brussels is one hour by train.
We live in the Flemish Ardennes, where many small cozy villages connect each other like a patchwork quilt. Picturesque houses and mansions can be found in the fields. For many, they are ideal for taking beautiful nature walks or cycling trips.
