Hej, nice to see you stumbled upon this profile!
My name is Riccardo and I mainly live in Erfurt, but I am also often here at the Leubengrundhof. The Leubengrundhof belongs to a good friend of mine (Stephan). He is not as young as he used to be, which is why I support him here from time to time.
The farm grounds are extensive and set in a beautiful, quiet valley. Directly at the farm, there are about 5 to 6 hectares of land. Additionally, there is a 20-hectare forest area located a bit further up on the hills. On the property, there are several old brick buildings from the 1950s and two old timber-framed buildings that are significantly older.
The Leubengrundhof is a former sawmill that was operated by water power 80 years ago. At that time, due to efficiency reasons and the fact that the springs and streams driving the sawmill were running increasingly low on water, the machines were switched to electrical power. Fortunately, the water quantity and quality are still sufficient to supply several ponds where fish are raised. Among them, you can find trout, carp, and tench.
A nice side effect of this is that the ponds invite you for a quick cooling dip in the summer (:
Besides the saw equipment, the Leubengrundhof also features a fully equipped carpentry shop and a metal workshop (locksmithery).
Tasks that come up around the farm mainly include: mowing and tree trimming, maintenance and renovation around the buildings and machinery, assisting with fish farming, small carpentry work, and many more little adventures.
Currently, I am considering whether it makes sense to get a small flock of sheep (4–5 animals) to hand over part of the lawn and pasture care to animal helpers. So, if you have experience with sheep care and management, I would love to exchange ideas.
What else is there to say about the region? Central Germany is a region steeped in history. With Erfurt, Weimar, and Jena, there are three larger cities nearby that offer plenty of evidence of past eras, reflected in museums, exhibitions, or the everyday cityscape. There, you can also go out for a relaxed drink or party if country life ever gets too quiet for you.
Otherwise, if you are interested or already skilled in handiwork and enjoy country life, you have come to the right place (:
For me, it doesn't matter what gender or background you have or how you identify. As long as you bring a friendly and open attitude, that is completely enough.
When I am at the farm, I love cooking together – whether vegetarian, pescatarian, or vegan! When Stephan is here on his own, cooking together depends a bit on his mood that day, but meat-free food is never a problem either way.
I am looking forward to connecting, your support, a great time here, and your message!

  • Help

    Help

There are always tasks in the NGO or at the great land site here. (:
Sometimes we need a helping hand to handle some timber or makin some firewood. Furthermore you may help at the farm or to look after the animals. Moreover there is some help with the trouts at the lakes.
In the early summer we need help to make hay and lead the animal on the pasture.
There are a lot of buildings which are old and we have to reconstruct them over the next years. You may help and learn something about the ecological buildingmaterial like clay and timber.
If you want to travel and help here, you get a free accomodation and a fair wage about 10 € per hour.
