    Description

Hello and welcome to our profile!
** Looking for a volunteer from mid April until end of May! **

We are a self-organized, antispeciesist initiative that began in 2013 in Belgium and later expanded to Greece.

    Our action includes:
-Providing aid to animals that have been abused or abandoned.
-Finding permanent homes or offering foster care for rescued animals.
    -Covering veterinary expenses.
-Organizing solidarity events focused on animal rights, veganism, and antispeciesism.

Today, we are building a shelter where animals in need can finally find safety and care.

We have a beautiful plot of land, spanning 24,000 square meters, full of potential and possibilities. It's located in a mountainous area at 500 meters altitude. It’s a peaceful place surrounded by nature, just a 15-minute drive from the beach and close to the beautiful city of Nafpaktos.

The project is still in its early stages ,everything began from scratch, as the land was (and still is) pure wild nature. We moved to the shelter in June 2024, into a caravan. So far, we’ve fenced half of the land and installed a solar panel system, but we’re still waiting for the building permit that will allow us to gain access to water. Since we currently have no direct water connection, we transport water every two days using our van, stored in tanks and bottles.

    How the shelter is supported:
We’ve chosen not to accept funding from the state or the European Union, as we strongly believe in mutual solidarity. Our main source of financial support comes from the solidarity bazaars we organize or take part in every month in Athens. In addition to the bazaars, this project is supported by online donations and independent events organized by others in solidarity with our cause. Any remaining costs are covered by the core members who surround and sustain this project.

    Who We’re Currently Looking For
At the moment, we are especially looking for volunteers who are motivated to help and already have experience in one or more of the following areas:
    - Maintenance and repair tasks
    - Permaculture and gardening
    - Positive dog training
    - Animal care

We need people who feel confident helping independently and can handle tools and projects without close supervision.

It’s important that everyone sticks the daily schedule, as repeated delays disrupt the flow and fairness of the work. To ensure the shelter runs smoothly and the animals are well cared for, we have some basic rules in place. We expect all volunteers to respect these rules and contribute to a positive, cooperative atmosphere.

Please remember that this is not a business but a project driven by a cause. We are all volunteers and make no profit from this help. While we want everyone to have an enjoyable and fulfilling experience, this is not a holiday destination for those looking to contribute minimal effort. If you’re looking for a place like that, our shelter is probably not the right fit and we kindly ask that you consider applying elsewhere.

The daily tasks include cleaning, cooking, changing the compost toilet, dog walkings, clean the animals' places etc and everyone has to contribute.
IMPORTANT NOTE: Please keep in mind that we’re not your parents, so we all share responsibility for maintaining the space.

The priority is on tasks that contribute to the development of the shelter, such as DIY projects, gardening, and necessary repairs.

    About help:
    5 hours per day
    5 days per week
**Please note: While cuddling and spending time with the animals is encouraged and appreciated, it does not count as helping hours**

    Minimum stay: 2 weeks

If you’ve read this description all the way through and would like to apply, please include your favorite animal in the title of your message.

    What we offer:
    Accommodation in a cozy caravan
Meals (breakfast and 2 meals) during your helping days.

If you are responsible and love animals and want to join this project, we’d love to hear from you!

**Please note that we have zero tolerance for any form of oppressive behavior, including but not limited to sexism, racism, homophobia, transphobia, fatphobia, ableism and other forms of discrimination.**

Our location offers plenty to explore. You can visit the ancient ruins of Delphi, relax on the scenic beaches of Galaxidi and Itea, and enjoy the beautiful, crystal-clear waters nearby. The town of Nafpaktos, just a short drive away, features a historic Venetian castle, a charming harbor, and many options sightseeing.

We love DIY, cooking vegan, art, and being active for the animals in many ways.

    Our Next Goals Include:

Fencing various zones to welcome more animals and build safe shelters for them.

Clearing the land of dead trees left by the fire that devastated the area four years ago.

Designing a permaculture plan for long-term ecological sustainability.

Establishing vegetable gardens to support self-sufficiency.

For the moment, we can host people in our second caravan, in tents, or in their own equipped vehicles.

Accommodations are simple for now, but we're improving things every month.

    One compost toilet
    One outdoor shower
One indoor shower with solar water heater
    Refrigerator
    Washing machine
    Three sinks
    DIY pallet seating area
    Tents
    Two caravans
    A shared kitchen
    A container used for storage
    Relaxation spots in nature

If needed, we can provide tents and sleeping essentials such as mattresses, sheets, and pillows for those who don’t have their own gear.

  • What else ...

    What else ...

We do not support the idea that animals are food, products to be bred, slaughtered, or consumed for profit, or used for any other purpose.
We have zero tolerance for all forms of oppression. Sexist, racist, macho, ableist, homophobic, transphobic, or speciesist behavior will not be tolerated here.

The shelter is a human-vegan space and during your stay, you will be expected to eat only vegan food and use vegan and cruelty-free products.
We also maintain an alcohol- and drug-free environment to support those who are working to overcome addiction.

We provide breakfast, 2 meals each day, and drinking water is always available for free. Any additional food, drinks, or personal supplies are at your own expense. During your days off, we do not cover your meals.

You’ll have access to the kitchen, indoor and outdoor showers, fridge, washing machine, and shared chill spaces.

We can drop you off and pick you up from the beach when we’re heading out with our car. However, if you’d like to explore the area on your own, you’ll need to hitchhike, rent a car, or use the bus. During the summer, the bus schedule is quite frequent, especially since popular tourist spots like Delphi are nearby. We also have two bicycles that you can use.

If you need any further information, feel free to ask! If you’d like to apply, please be clear and specific about your skills, needs, and the type of work you're comfortable with. Before your arrival, you’ll be asked to fill out a form and have a video call with us so we can get to know each other better.
