    Description

We are a not-for-profit artist residency project.

It is run by a family (or rather, a small community) with an emphasis on engaged and restorative artistic practices of freedom, community, and harmonious co-presence. Based in Nicosia since 2018, and serving as a transitional space for families looking to exit the city, it has been a place for gatherings, workshops and symposia on creativity, love, freedom, freedom-respecting technology, reviving connective practices through dance, storytelling, hiking, and for rediscovering flow and being together with all ages, to thank and celebrate life. As a nature-focused community-building initiative, it has been connecting people and families whose needs are not quite met by the local extended-family support system (e.g. single parent families, families interested in alternative education and skill-sharing -whether they are presently relying on the conventional education system or not, families in various kinds of transition and people interested in mutual support and "being the village"). We provide support in the alternative education community island-wide while coordinating regular offerings that cultivate solidarity, mutual assistance, and an extended notion of kinship.

The initiative is a coordinated by Chrystalleni (PhD), single mother and pedagogue, Cyprus-based artist and cultural studies scholar with an integrated life-practice in community-focused and participatory art, openness, and technological freedom. It is inspired by the timeless emergence of Mother Houses all over the world with a mission of care for children, for each other, for ourselves and for our environment.

We welcome Workaways to participate in our community and support our activities according to their abilities and interests!

    Cultural exchange and learning opportunities

We wish to share the art of being together in respect for each other's gifts and unique path, the art of maintaining rhythm and flow in connection with nature and with each other, and of taking care meaningfully and mindfully. We would love to connect you with other places and people around the island according to your interests.

You can contribute to our not-for-profit activities:
    - our vegetarian / vegan cooking rota,
    - fixes and improvements around the house and garden,
    - care-tasks and daily tasks around the house,
    - animal care and dog training,
    - co-developing and running more nature-based programmes or other gatherings to grow and address the needs of our community.

We are committed to a mentality of mutual exchange and our practice follows the ideals of a circular and gift-economy.

We have not, so far, engaged in for-profit activities although we have, at times, invited donations to cover costs and sharing any donations among the people who put in the work. We wish to build on this and will be happy to host Workaways who may be interested in this model.
