We rescue puppies from the street, rehabilitate them, spay and neuter and find them furever homes in Canada and the U.S. We also spay and neuter as many street dogs as we can. Working towards ending the stray dog crisis in St. Lucia. We are located in the scenic town of Soufriere, surrounded by the beautiful Pitons! There are many waterfalls and hot springs in the area. You can hike either or both Pitons. There are beautiful beaches at walking distance. There is plenty to do in the area and you wont be bored! :) Our staff is very friendly and may have time to show you around. We are like family at the rescue and would love for you feel at home with us! The best part of staying with us is getting the opportunity to play with over 80 puppies and kittens! You will be immersed in the Caribbean lifestyle! You will have the opportunity to learn about what it takes to run an animal rescue and take care of over 100 animals!
We are a non-profit Animal Rescue in need of volunteers to help look after over 100 animals. At the moment we have 80+ puppies, 4 horses, and 12+ cats. We are seeking animal lovers!
Some volunteer responsibilities would be:
•Assisting in daytime feedings
•Giving our late night meal
•help administer flea and tick prevention, dewormers and other routine meds
•Taking photos of puppies for social media or adopters
•Giving baths and grooming
•Making sure all water dishes are clean and full
•Assuring all puppies have toys and blankets
•Help monitoring puppies poops, giving descriptions and telling the staff *Please don't apply if you are not comfortable picking up poop because that is a big part of the job. :)
•Giving staff members detailed updates on how puppies are doing
•Help cleaning enclosures and parts of the house *keeping everything organised
•Assisting one of our staff members to take dogs to the airport or vet
•We would require you to clean up after yourself and occasionally to help with some light housework. Such as, sweeping, mopping, and organizing.
•The most important task for you at the rescue would be to give the animals attention and love.
We would expect you to work 5 hours a day, 5 days a week, and for the most part can be flexible on time and days. However, if you’d like to go above and beyond these hours and responsibilities, there’s a possibility of a stipend. Meals will be covered by the rescue. Work can be demanding and dealing with sick puppies can be heartbreaking but our days can be a lot of fun too! ****Our rescue sends puppies to their furever homes in Canada and the U.S. and we are in need of flight volunteers. Please consider helping us get puppies home by letting us add puppies to your flight home, at no extra cost to you. If you aren't interested in volunteering with us but are willing to be flight volunteers, please contact us too!
The rescue is based out of a house and you would be provided a private bedroom, and two bathrooms at your disposal. You are welcome to use our kitchen and there are food essentials available to you. You have use of the whole house. We have a tv for your use and good wifi. Because the accommodation is at the rescue, there will be occasional barking throughout the night, if you’re a very light sleeper, it may be difficult for you. Also, when we have puppies that need special care, we keep them inside, therefore, you will on occasion have a puppy or two in your bedroom with you. Depending on the night, you may be alone sleeping at the rescue overnight (but you still have 80+pups). You will have plenty of free time and we are usually flexible with schedules.
There is plenty to do and see! You are at walking distance to the main area of town. We will be able on occasion to provide transportation to different areas but it will most often be up to you. You can accompany our staff to town or around Soufriere when they are going.
