We are a villa in the countryside with a large organic vegetable garden and several fields of carob trees. We also have free range chickens, dogs, and cats. We are open-minded and flexible, but also professional and organized people with 12 years of experience hosting volunteers.
My name is Andrea and my mother is Daria. Mamma ran the place until a couple of years ago, now she is slowly beginning to retire and I am slowly taking over ownership and responsibilities of the place.
This year we have extended the vegetable garden and working to open a sustainable home restaurant, we produce marmalades, bread and we love good food in general!
We need help with construction, gardening, animal care, pruning and harvesting the carob and different seasonal harvests like capers and others spontaneous vegetables.
We are also interested in hosting volunteers who would like to stay for longer periods of time, to give us more consistent help, especially from April to September.

Here you'll learn a lot about carob trees and carob harvest, permaculture, baking bread, making pasta, and general life in the countryside. We can teach you about Sicilian culture, traditional foods, and the Italian language. Hopefully, during your stay here, you'll get the chance to meet my sister and my new nephew, hang out with me and my friends, and see the beautiful surrounding cities and landscapes.
The area that surrounds is rich in natural landscapes: Canyons, fields, sea and beaches but also cultural and historical interests like the Baroque cities of Modica, Scicli, Ispica and Ragusa.
We have a Meditation room and we are very likely to do meditation and other kinds of things like that depending on the period.

Additionally, in the last year or so, we are hosting groups of older people, usually, over sixty and in groups of12/16 who come here to experience and enjoy a day in our everyday family life, we welcome them, make bread and fresh pasta together and then we eat lunch altogether. The volunteers are part of the family for us while they are here and they're participation is always welcome and become a highlight exeperience for both parts
In early spring and also late autumn, we need help for pruning the Carruba trees.
Around May-June, we harvest the capers.
In late summer and autumn, we need help with harvesting Carruba and olives and preparing the wood for the winter.

Usually we do about 5 hours per day, with two days off per week. Typically we start in the morning (around 8 am) and go until lunch. After lunch you have free time to either take a nice nap, relax around the property or explore the area.
We are located in the countryside, about a 10 minute drive to Ispica. If you do not have a car it is not a huge problem, since either myself or my mother could potentially give you a lift to the bus station in Ispica, where you can catch a bus to the surrounding cities. However it is helpful to keep in mind that I am not always available to provide lifts and some afternoons you may have to find your own way (either by walking or hitchhiking) or be okay with spending your afternoon free time at the property. On your days off it is usually easy for me to take you to the bus station in the morning, it's simply the workday afternoons that I cannot guarantee my availability.
